Ah, well the more you know... but I personally don't need some sort of "motivation" to play though the game in its original flavour. And most of it is given if, you know... just play the game.
But that's better suited for an achievment rant thread :)

dawvee: To be honest, I'd be just as happy if they simply re-released the original, like they did with Loom, The Dig, and the Indy games. And hell, Sam & Max, Full Throttle, Maniac Mansion, DOTT, and the rest while they're at it. Come on, Lucasarts, I want to give you my MONEY!

Aliasalpha: Err they did, press the button to switch modes and you're playing the original game again. There's an achievement for doing it

Oh, I know. That's how I played it through in the end, but it's a fat chance they'll port the SE to Linux or Mac, while the originals run fine under ScummVM on both.

Actually, the original SE is already available for Mac. And with Telltale and now Steam selling Mac, MI2:SE will most likely be Mac upon release.
In fact, MI2:SE is being released for Mac.

Unless they make it so you got sound and music with the original graphics, I'm not interested. What idiot decided you couldn't turn on voices in "legacy" mode?

Well I'll be... you're right! I'd honestly never seen it sold anywhere, so just sort of assumed it didn't exist. According to the Wikipedia page it does exist on the Mac, but the only place actually selling it is some portal I've never heard of called GameAgent. Well, here's hoping they roll out the Mac SE's for Steam eventually.

They are. It's on the website. Look on the "Features" list. Apparently they got enough people complaining about that flaw with MI 1 SE that they decided to change MI 2 SE to accommodate the people who feel they must have AND eat their cake.

Goooood. I'll get it then. I just wish they patched M1 SE to allow this :(. I like the voices but the new graphics are like being jabbed in the eye with an icepick every 5 secs.

Aliasalpha: I think they're saved in the steamapps folder with the game data. What was the crash exactly?

I remember trying to find them and not finding them. I could look again.
It was some Visual C++ Runtime Error message. Googling the exact error revealed that something might be wrong in the registry or whatever.

I wouldn't call it a flaw, it was exactly what it was designed to be, the original game for the purists. Naturally the purists had forgotten that haveing to read takes effort and so kicked up a stink

I'm by no means a purist (not even having played the original game), though I prefer the original graphics. I welcome this change.
Also, what good is a cake if you cannot chose to eat only part of it?
I actually like the idea myself but I think that complaining that the game is the same as it used to be when you specifically selected the option to make the game the same as it used to be is pretty damned moronic.
Then again, this IS the internet...

So it's moronic to not like the new graphics but still wanting the rest of the stuff you paid for? Sounds to me your point is moronic.

If you're going to that much of a nitpick, just don't play the game. Or just get the original and play that.
The new graphics are great, and extremely true to the games, save for Guybrush's hair in the first. The few common complaints there were, mostly hair-related, have been adressed in MI2:SE, so that game is bound to be even better.
Honestly, here Lucasarts are at it remaking their greatest classics, to be enjoyed by both new and old audiences alike, and all people like you can muster are fucking complaints.
Aside from the crash which broke the first SE for me, I gotta say I thought the animations were pretty bad.
Edit: Hey, I just verified the cache again, and this time it updated and fixed the issue! Woohoo!

*rolls eyes* NITPICKING? The way a game looks is NOT nitpicking you dolt. Graphics define the whole game's atmosphere and MI1 SE did NOT manage to retain that atmosphere (especially due to the weak animations and characters) and many people agree with that if you look around.
And I find it sad that you lack the capabilities to see why many people would just want the voices and the music while keeping the nostalgic look. The fact that the sequel has made these changes SHOWS there was a demand for it.
