When I try to run Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, the game will not start. My computer freezes total, and I can't even ctrl+alt+delete, and have to restart the computer on the "big button" (hold the start button for six seconds).

I hope, someone can help.

I run with Windows 7 professional. I had Win7 "regular" on my old PC, and I didn't have this problem on my old PC.

I experience the same problem with several games on my Steam account, for example Postal 2, Fallout and The Longest Journey Demo.

Does the game put out a log file? That could really help pinpoint the source of failure. Also, does your new PC have a different antivirus, or another background process, running? And does it maybe use two video cards in SLI/Crossfire?

I can not see any log file.
I have the same virus program on my new PC, as on my old (BullGuard).
I don't know about the video cards. I only have one in my cabinet. But I do not know if it's the same.

In MOHAAs case, when I want to run the game, a window, that looks to be Windows security appears, and ask me the following:
"Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to the computer?"
(I am running Windows in Danish, so I do not know the precise English formulation)
I press yes, the MOHAA window appears, and whether I choose to run the game in safe or normal mode, the black screen appears, and the computer freezes.

Disconnect from the internet and switch off your virus protection.
Then run your game again, but right click and use the 'run as admin' line from the pop up. See if it will start with that.

Yes, I always keep the drivers updated, and respond on new updates.

Yes, it is legal; I bought it pre-installed on my computer. Strange, that solves the problem. Also with my Steam games. But thank you very much!
The strange part is, that the game keeps working, when I restart the virus program, and reconnect the internet. But the problem reappears, when I restart my computer, with the Internet plugged. Are there any way to solve this problem, so I don't have to unplug the Internet every time I want to play these games?

Nvm seems fixed.

Try running as admin without unplugging your internet.

Also, if the problem is with your antivirus/security suite, you may want to add the MOHAA executable as a trusted file/exception/whatever your antivirus calls it.

Are you using a laptop per chance?

If that runs, try running the game just with the 'as admin' part leaving both the internet and the virus checker online.
Turning them off is just a precaution to make sure nothing extra is running in the background hogging up processor and ram, or causing conflicts of interest on your system.

If there is a continuation of the problem when you run the game with the virus checker still running you can look at making exceptions for the games launcher when it starts up.

you have a firewall or peerblock that partially stops the steam client? they may require some online activation

It helps with the whitelisting of the game. I figured it out.
But how do I whitelist Steam games? Because, they are Internet shortcuts (on my computer), so I can't find a .exe file for them.
