PoSSeSSeDCoW: Hopefully this makes it so less people buy it on PC.
The more MW2 fails on PC, the better.

Care to explain this? History has shown it's the consoles that hold back the progress of computer games, not the reverse.
avatar
Delixe: You are right I did. Mainly because in my country there are no used PC games and I am sure Ireland is not the only example.
avatar
TheCheese33: Yeah, the United States does not sell used PC games, either.

That is why I said this was only good for console games. But you can buy used pc games via places like flea markets, craigslist, ebay, etc. Of course, when looking to buy a newer used pc game, you better know what kind of activation/drm bs is used for that game.

Cliftor: ??
You think the moar justification they have for their bull**** "the PC is a dying, piracy platform" rationale, the better?
No, if it performs badly it will just hasten the flight of some devs away from the system. I mean, if a "sure thing" as incredibly as Modern Warfare can't be a blockbuster, what hope does innocent and naive up and coming franchise have?
Yeah, I think this delay is about piracy, and I think at this point it's a deliberate policy. They reason that that if they stave off the appearance of warez copies, some impatient people might actually by the console version. Console version nets them more money and they owe less post-release support to those customers. It's win-win-win for them.

PoSSeSSeDCoW: I'd rather play and purchase indie games exclusively than have games on the PC be $60. To be honest, I can't think of one game they've put out in the last year on the PC that hasn't been crap shovelware. Activision is dead to me and it would take a hell of a lot to get them in my good graces again.
So, yes, I want Activision to abandon the PC platform. It'll leave more consumer money for companies that actually deserve it. Activision has done nothing but hurt gaming.

Whether you like Activision games or not, a lot of people do. Prototype was a great, fun game and it had a good PC version as well.
You can choose not to buy MW2, but don't wish for it to fail and for me to never play the next one. That's just being silly.

It's not being silly. When, in the future, I wish to buy a game when it comes out, I want it to be $50, or less. I don't want games to be $60. If MW2 is successful, it is far more likely that games will be $60 in the future.
So is it being silly to want it to fail? No. Is it being silly to buy a game for $60, when that purchase will actively hurt the gaming community. Yes.

The game is worth $60 if you play the multiplayer religously... let people make up their own minds about what a game is worth.
PC has always been the home of more varied pricing for games. New adventure games come out at $20-30, foreign games like Cryostasis and Necrovision at $30, games like Risen and Red Faction launch at $40, others launch at $50 or even higher. Back in the day FMV games and blockbusters would release higher, in the $70 range often times, like Under a Killing Moon.
The important thing for the consumer is that they buy the game when the price is what they think the game is worth. I bought Empire Total War for $70 the day it came out, but Wanted and Tomb Raider Underworld had to wait until they hit $20. I spent what I wanted to.
If you don't think MW2 is worth $60 then don't buy it for that, but hoping it fails is another thing entirely... in an age where PC ports are less and less common, we don't need massive blockbuster hits failing on PC.

NamelessFragger: Not like I care. Just a rehash, plus I'm not giving Bobby Kotick my money.
Why are people so desperate to have this game ASAP, anyway?

I wouldn't say I'm desperate in any way. I enjoyed the first Modern Warfare, so I'm looking forward to the sequel...nothing more, nothing less.
WTF!!!!!!!!
Fucking America gets the good end of the stick.
In Aussie and NZ, new games are pretty much always $100.
first one was crap, World at War is an overpriced gem, and the hype around this is terrible.
I hope activision and bobby kotick drown in their collected baby tears.
Group hug time.
Where are the daisies?

anjohl: They stagger the PC release to stem piracy, since prospective buyers in the first few weeks will pirate a PC copy as opposed to buying the retail. This has been the trend for years now.
avatar
Delixe: They are idiots as going by people's reactions this staggered release BS will only increase the chance of MW2 being pirated. Bear in mind that the pirate of MW2 will probably be out BEFORE the retail version.
People were expecting a simultaneous release and would probably have not considered piracy. Now Activision have just flipped the finger to those same people and they are looking at getting back at them so...
avatar
anjohl: You missed the "used" part I think.

You are right I did. Mainly because in my country there are no used PC games and I am sure Ireland is not the only example.

He was specifically talking about console games.

The game is worth a LOT more than that. Ol' Bobby actually has a point. World of Warcraft is the #1 played game on Xfire, and it costs $15 a month plus the cost of the game. COD4 is the number 2 game, and it cost $50. I would argue that CODMW2 could likely be priced at $99.99 and sell just as many copies as it would have at $60.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the Call of Duty series, though nowadays it seems like Activision is treating the CoD franchise like it's the new corporate cash cow (which it is) and they're churning out games every year since 2004 or so. I'm getting it on the 360 but I'll probably get it on the PC when it's NOT $60 a few months later, mostly for the multiplayer and the mods that the consoles dream of having. And besides, map packs on the PC for COD4 didn't cost a thing, so... there's that.
As great as I'm sure MW2 will turn out since it is from The Infinity Ward, I just have no interest in it right now. I'm currently eyeballing a lot of new IP stuff -- Borderlands; Torchlight; Dragon Age: Origins; and Risen.
If there's a sequel I really want to play, Divinity 2 is definitely on the list.
It really is "blah" for PC gamers that MW2 is not dropping the same day as the console versions. Same can be said about Borderlands, as well.

Navagon: If we're honest here, even some of the publishers signed up with GOG aren't exactly glowing beacons of honesty. Interplay in particular is a mocking parody of its former self.
avatar
Delixe: And lets not get on the subject of Ubisoft. Starforce anyone?

I will throw UbiSoft one bone -- Prince of Persia (2008) did not come w/ any DRM on it.
Though, damn UbiSoft for not releasing PoP: Epilogue on the PC.

Is it delayed or isn't it? Infinity Ward don't seem to think so. Unless Activision have taken the step themselves which means that MW2 is going to be ready the same time as the console versions so any delay is purely down to Activision.

Crassmaster: I wouldn't say I'm desperate in any way. I enjoyed the first Modern Warfare, so I'm looking forward to the sequel...nothing more, nothing less.

And in that case, you don't seem to be the kind of person I'm talking about.
I mean those people who are practically dying to have it the instant it is released, and if the PC version is delayed, they'll go out and buy the console versions instead, US$60 price tag and all instead of just waiting a bit for the PC version to release and the price to drop.
Makes me laugh, all these bullshit deley tactics to "prevent" piracy are stupid. Am i the onlyone who can see people pirating this out of spite? Plus there could verywell be a leaked copy (Fingers crossed) that everyone will dive on. I just wish people would torrent companies that dont give a shit about PC instead of the leaked copy of Call of Pripyat that came out a small while ago.
Saying that activision should abandon PC all togeather is about as stupid as Kotic is though, alot of people seem to disagree but IMO i would rather have soemthing and never need it then not have it avaliable and need it.
Plus the arformentioned could be used if one doesnt want to pay Activsion. The thats all theoreticle of course ; )
