GOG is a wonderful site, which has an active and great community. Recently it has been marred by some people who has created multiple acounts to deprive and cheat other users.

I understand that GOG likes to allow users free reign in the forums, and I applaud you for that. However, when something like this happens, why do you not step in to protect this wonderful community ?

Clarification - I am not asking for 24/7 moderators, I am asking you to ban serial offenders. New users to GOG are not being accepted by the community, as they once were due to the mis-trust spread by a very few individuals. I find this very sad.

No i haven't. I am hoping for a "blue" perspective on this, before doing that.

PM'ing a blue might be more readily seen than the thread. Have you attempted to do so yet? Or if not you, I wonder if anyone else from the Ninja thread or Classifieds thread have done so.

I'm sure TET would have something to say on the matter, or get some kind of follow-up to the user and his possibly multiple user accounts.

I understand your anger. I once (drunkenly) protested via PM to TET about a user , that blatantly scripts in order to gain games from giveaways (Sorry about that TET). It hurts when you put your own money and kindness into a giveaway, and someone cheats and gains it without any effort. I was really angry, but ultimately that was a problem of my own making.

It has to be remembered though that they are not actually breaking any rules. I don't know if the user you're referring to actually conned anyone, but as far as I can tell they are just posting and responding to posts. Am I wrong?

Several people lost codes to that one user. "Trading".

Ok, then that's fraud. That's a whole different ball game that doesn't require moderation. It requires simple notification that a crime has been committed.

I think what Ian means is the fact that that one guy is able to create multiple accounts to use the same trick.

If that user was stuck with just one account, we would be able to know he wasn't trustworthy, but with annonymous accounts, the guy could prey on kind/nieve users and con alot of people.

And my point is that moderation is not the answer. If someone is fraudulently scamming people out of codes, then they will manage it whatever GOG do. They need to actually pursue the person rather than the account. However I would point out that such scamming is nothing new, and you should only enter into a trade you can't trust with some form of escrow.

Well that was my idea.

I can see why it winds Ian up, because we are kind of powerless to stop scammers.

The only "cheat" I noticed was when somebody traded away a key I from a giveaway I made. But I haven't been clear enough to disallow it in the conditions. Therefore, I'm not really angry, but it stopped me from doing giveaways.

That was my initial thought, but it sounds like someone has taken my "Nasty giveaway" to heart, and started trading fake codes.
