A few breaths of fresh air in The Zone.

Cheeki Breeki, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s! We've heard you're planning on some trespassing. With the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series DRM-Free on GOG.com for only $14.97, who could blame you? After all, The Zone calls out to all of us, promising great loot, lasting friendships, awe-inspiring views, and frequent rushes of adrenaline. The experience with all three of the games, the original Shadow of Chernobyl, the prequel Clear Sky, and the sequel Call of Pripyat is deeply immersive, enthralling, and ultimately fun. Yet, there are no things in this world that couldn't be improved, and for PC games, it's very often a matter of weeks before mods start to show up, enhancing gameplay of even the most spectacular games. Here are the most impressive modifications for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series games, that we find well worth your time (and the little effort it takes to install them).

When a team led by a popular contemporary artist, the painter Paul Dolgov, takes on the task of updating not only the visuals, but also the inner workings of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, good things happen. With his S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete set of mods, Paul has earned himself a place on GamingBolt.com's list of Call of Pripyat screenshots, or Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky on Flikr.

Here are just some features these modifications include:

- Complete graphics overhaul with hundreds of modified textures, new high-end rendering options, such as ambient occlusion, motion blur, and depth of focus, a re-designed HUD and menus, and even a new particle system.

- Freeplay mode allowing for endless exploration of The Zone, with random, un-scripted events, after the main campaign ends.

- AI improvements giving the NPCs more realistic behavior, so they avoid dangers on their own and--on the other hand--so they don't notice the player over unrealistic distances.

- Weather and day/night cycles remastered to feature dynamically changing conditions, high-res nightsky, and wet surface simulation.

- New sound and music, including over 80 acoustic guitar arrangements that you can listen to by the campfire.

- New gameplay features, like third-person view mode, faction reset option, field repair kit, a sleeping bag and much more.

Head out to Paul's websites for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete 2009 1.4.4, Clear Sky Complete 1.1.3, and Call of Pripyat Complete 1.0.2 to learn more and download the mods. Just keep in mind, that those three heavily modify the game, delivering an experience that much differs from the vanilla S.T.A.L.K.E.R. This also means you won't be able to apply the mods to an existing savegame, but start your adventure over after the overhaul. Bothersome as it might be for some, those modifications will award your trouble tenfold.

Admittedly, the mods featured in this editorial, while being excellent impressive work, don't necessarily give you the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience that was intended by the game's creators. Luckily, there's a lot of other mods that update the game without much actual alteration. There are also those that change it even further. We invite you to share your own S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modding experiences and recommendations in the forum thread below!

henriquejr: I don't know the correct forum/place to make GOG.com a suggestion.
In any case, I'd suggest placing all threads kinda 'Mod Spotlight' inside theirs respective game forums, instead of General Discussion. I think people would first search on game forums, if they're looking for hints on greats mods for a game.
Yes, 'Mod Spotlight' still should have its own headline starred on GOG's home page.

I only mean to contribute with GOG.com community.

Thanks!

FlamingFirewire: Might be good to also put that here: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site
And to the support page under feedback here: http://www.gog.com/support/contact
Thank you for pointing me out the correct place!
I already put my suggestion on http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site

PS: MY FAULT HERE !!! I created this "Mod Spotlight' wish without knowing a similar one was already created way before. I reported my just created wish as a duplicate. Hope GOG.com delete it.

Agreed, specially about 'Mod Spotlight' having its own headline on GOG's home page
I agree with playing vanilla over Complete. I only tried Complete for SoC, and it just made the game too easy. I just didn't have the same awesome atmospheric experience with the Complete mod.
I would highly recommend playing your first run without Complete.

I can assure everyone that CoP is definitely playable, and extremely stable without mods. I have clocked a couple hundred hours with CoP, and I don't recall any bugs, or anything that I even thought "could be better". It is a well polished game.

cappe3000: ATTENTION FELLOW NEW STALKERS

Do NOT use these mods on your first playthrough. The mods HEAVILY alters gameplay, as well as overall atmosphere, and not necessarily in a good way. All of the games are very playable (and extremely fun) vanilla, as long as they are fully patched.

For more info and links about the starter packs, mods, why you might not want to use "Complete", as well as more interesting information about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in general, google "the zone manual" and press the "steamcommunity" link.
(to little reputation to post the link myself. Sorry about that)

Also, read/save the picture I attached.

Now have fun playing, perhaps, the greatest games you'll ever play.

Guide, out!
Thank you and everyone else on here. Why I love GOG. I read the file you attached. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm gonna' probably go with the ZRP and the aesthetic (beginner) mods for my 1st play thru, as suggested. That looks perfect!! After that, there is some "Autumn" one that looks pretty awesome for SoC. This looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.
There should be some sections about 'Misery' and 'Sigerous Mod'.

Both of these mods add a lot to Call of Pripyat, and difficulty level is pretty nice for both. Misery is more about survival and atmosphere, while Sigerous mod is more about adding elements of previous installments (areas like Cordon, Swamp etc) and many other new features.

I played Misery with great enjoyment, and with Sigerous mod I'm currently at swamp.
I mean no disrespect to Artistpavel and the team that has worked on the Complete series when I say I wish this mod spotlight for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was taken off the site. The reasons for this is that while it is a fine mod it is a terrible choice for first-timers, as you acknowledge in the last paragraph. I do not think this little disclaimer is enough to keep people from using the mod on their first try. The Complete series is known for not only introducing graphical improvements, but also dumbing down the gameplay. Enemies become bullet sponges and your weapons become inaccurate. I have seen so many newbies complaining about these problems and blaming them on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers when it is in fact Complete's fault. Furthermore, Shadow of Chernobyl Complete uses an old version of the Zone Reclamation Project as it's base that introduces it's own bugs, and the developers refuse to use the newest version of it. The complete mods are just not good for your first playthrough, and I think you are spoiling this new wave of stalkers by recommending Complete. Their perception of the game is going to be permanently skewed by Complete, and as you say, they will never get to experience the game for itself, the thing that made us love it in the first place.
What, no MISERY recommendation?
Long time STALKER fan here, so this is going to sound sacrilegious, but whats the main difference between Complete and Reloaded? Just Textures and AI?
So for newbies to these games, whats the best mods to use if Complete oversimplify/dumbs down the games too much?. I don't really want to play vanilla as i doubt i will play them through more than once (at least for now - my attention span is pretty bad) ?.
I just wanna mention another mod(-pack) that might interest veteran stalkers: Oblivion Lost. I played it years ago in this version: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Oblivion_Lost_22_for_1005;93039
I especially enjoyed the added "boss fights", the artifact transmutations and the way Controllers were beefed up. I remember spending hours figuring out how to kill ONE of them without getting my brain melted. Tremendous fun! :)
Since then they seem to have added a lot of other mods into the "newer" versions of OL, most noticable better textures etc.. (In the "old" OL2.2 you had to live with the vanilla graphics.) I haven't played the new ones yet, but nevertheless they might be of interest (the latest one as far as I can tell): http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-oblivion-lost-2010-mp

My two cents.

Thanks for the mods. I knew, that the games have more bugs than I can count in a day. I install the mod mostly for the bug fixes and better weapons. These were awfull in vanilla game.
Hell, never thought I'd see STALKER here! Bought all the damn games!

Exactly, ever since i discovered complete for SoC i treat it like unofficial patch more than a mod.
The "Complete" series of mods just make the games a lot easier.
We don't want that, now do we?
I wouldn't recommend any of the Complete mods, well, maybe for Clear Sky.

For mods, just go to moddb.
First time playing SHoC? Try Zone Reclamation Project. And you can always add Absolute Nature and Absolute Structures on top of that if you want more eye candy. There's also the Shaders Max and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Weather Overhaul mods.
