A Neverwinter Nights 2 mod re-creating the original Baldur's Gate saga

With the return of our popular Dungeons and Dragons bundle deal many of you got their hands on a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete. This is one of the most large-scaled Forgotten Realms adventures with a lengthy main campaign and all of its expansions. It also sports a nice 3D engine that, even seven years after the game's release, makes a wonderful job of presenting the diverse and vivid fantasy realm the game lets us explore. Either you have this game in your collection, or you're thinking about grabbing it from our sale, we'd like to bring to your attention a miracle of a mod, that will make your Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete experience even more awesome!

<iframe width="590" height="332" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9m6m0ia8COo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Baldur's Gate game along with its Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. Every location, every character, every quest, and every dialog line of the beloved 1999 classic have been carefully transferred into the 2006 Neverwinter Nights 2 engine. It took Drew Rechner--the project's lead designer--and his small team of dedicated modders seven years to complete this amazing mod, and now you can enjoy it absolutely free. The creators provide installation instructions, not complicated at all. All you need to revisit the Sword Coast is a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2.

NOTE: User registration with nexusmods.com is required to download the Baldur's Gate Reloaded mod (there is a free registration option if you leave all the payment plan boxes unchecked, but we encourage you to support this fine modding community).

For those of you who prefer the game in it's original 2D form we recommend our previous mod spotlight: Enhance your Baldur's Gate experience. For the next two hours you can still grab Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete, Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga, and many more D&D titles in one huge $20.10 Dungeons and Dragons bundle deal. The games are also available separately with 50% discount, and it will remain so until the end of our 2013 #NoDRM Summer sale. Have fun modding!

AstralWanderer: Neverwinter Nexus is also a site that blocks registrations from IP addresses they deem "suspicious" so making their content unavailable to those who use proxy servers.

A (French) download source that doesn't require registration can be found at:

http://www.jeuxvideopc.com/downloads/7936-neverwinter-nights-2/566-mods/34833-mod-baldur-s-gate-reloaded-10.php

Click the "Télécharger" button at the bottom to download. This covers the 1.0 release, not the 1.2 patch. If anyone knows of an alternate source for the patch, please post. :)
Thanks for that link, As this seems to be gone from Nexusmods. I am getting a VERY slow download, though. Maybe because I in USA?

[EDIT]
After downloading, my WinRAR had troubles extracting the file. And the 2 files (out of 3) that did extracted are called "Do Not Download - Part 1-794-1-0" and "Do Not Download - Part 2-794-1-0"?

Where is this mod at? Everyplace I Google points to Nexusmods.

I was getting an average 680KB/s download speed from the UK - it's very likely that anyone accessing it from America/Asia/Africa would see much less.

I just redownloaded and even with a few interruptions, it tested OK with WinRAR at my end. The file itself was 2,377MB in size and contained the folders "Do Not Download" parts 1-6 and "NPC Portraits for Tchos HD UI". It sounds like you had a corrupted or interrupted download since you mention only having 3 files rather than 7 so I would suggest retrying.

If the link still doesn't work for you, then the mod is also available via BitTorrent (really the way something that large should be distributed with) - a PirateBay search for "Baldur's Gate Reloaded" will provide the link.

Aww, you got my hopes up about this deal
It's too bad GOG doesn't host and let you download mods directly, with proper permission of course to do so if they need it. There are so many games with mod support but I often find locating ones players make to be scattered on different sites. There are some good databases, but I guess it would just be cool if we could have either direct downloads of good mods or at least direct mirror links to mods at other sites. It's all for convenience purposes, of course.

The biggest argument against this is probably support - people will expect GOG to fix any issues with what they host and that isn't going to be practical with many mods. In addition, some games have vast collections of mods (Morrowind, Baldur's Gate, etc) which give rise to conflicts, loading order issues and other subtleties.

GOG could include a link to a mod list for each game, but since many forums have stickied threads on modding, this would be somewhat redundant.

And for some games, there's disagreement about preferred mods.

For example, many prefer the G3 BG2 Fixpack, but I prefer the original Baldurdash FixPack. For VTMB, some prefer the Unofficial Patch, and some prefer True Patch. Some mods do the same thing or at least change the same things are incompatible, and some might prefer one while others prefer another.

To be honest I don't know much about mods and have only used a few, especially for Unreal Tournament. I don't even know what mods your referring to as it is :D

The fact there's so many is almost daunting, but it definitely takes time and research to learn what's out there. I'm still finding older mods for some games that were made years ago, the few I frequent.

Seems somewhat gauche to reply to my own post, but a 1.2 patch can be found via BitTorrent - see:

http://kickass.to/baldur-s-gate-reloaded-neverwinter-nights-2-campaign-pack-t8018060.html

This includes Baldur's Gate Reloaded but you can (using µTorrent or similar clients) select only the patch file, BaldursGateReloaded - Patch 2-794-1-2.rar

Since this is a torrent, standard health warnings apply and I've not tested this yet - however a check of the archive shows only NWN2-related content (no executable files or DLLs) so this should be safe.
I don't know what any of you are going on about. The URL changed, but the mod is still up on the site. Just do a google search for the mod (on the site) and it'll come up.
Grrr STOP BUMPING this thread people! Whenever I open it and read "With the return of our popular Dungeons and Dragons bundle deal ..." I flip out and reach for wallet until I see it's from the summer *tear*

(and I'm obviously joking about the anger for bumping the topic ;) - or at least, I hope it was obvious!)

regretnothin: Hickory, did you install the mod into the version you purchased here on gog? I bought this specifically to play BG-Reloaded and unfortunately the instructions to install are for an entirely different version. I stuck as closely to the installation instructions as possible, but I'm not having any luck getting the mod to show up.

I've looked for a solution on the nexus forums and on this site, but with no luck.

Just curious if you ran into the same issues when you installed?
avatar
Hickory: Yes, I have the GOG version of NWN2. The instructions are NOT for an entirely different version: you are mis-reading the instructions. The biggest mistake that people seem to be having with installation, is they are assuming (instead of reading the instructions) that the mod goes into the override folder -- IT DOES NOT. The override folder must be empty, else elements of this mod may not function as intended, if at all. Your installation must go directly into your:
\Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\ folder... everything. Leave the override folder alone.
Do you need to delete the existing files in your NWN2 folder that have the same names as the mod folders?

The directions don't mention that, but it seems like you should.

Also, patch 1.3 will be releasing for the BGR MOD in a month or two according to the nexusmod site.

Extract the archives and override any folders. That is standard installation practice. No need to delete them manually.
