it looks like GOG is sponsoring the moddb mod of the year awards.

That's pretty cool, I wonder if GOG has a list of favorite mods themselves...
That's great! Nice one, GOG :-)
Awesome. Support is great for mods/indies.
Can't wait for BMS.
Mods ftw!
Congrats GOG! :>

Don't we all... BMS is looking more and more like DNF :-/
Hope so, too. Half Life 1 was really the only Valve game that I thoroughly enjoyed. Once they left the Quake 1 engine behind, things went downhill. The environments became too complex, so I had to spend half the time figuring out where I'm going... I know some people enjoy this exploration-side of shooters, but for me there's nothing like a good, linear level design. Quake, Doom3, Prey: These are my kind of shooter.

I found the level design throughout the entire HL series thoroughly linear. Where did you think you had too much freedom of movement?
I think he is talking about open areas and vehicles. He loves corridors.

Are they ever going to make a Prey 2? I liked the first one, especially the trippy multiplayer.

Yes, those were very wide open areas that could get confusing, especially finding the singing vortigaunt.
Otherwise, EP1 and 2 were a little more linear than HL2, if only for the fact there were less vehicle and open areas. Sure they existed, but they were fewer.
Although HL1 had vehicles as well (the tram!) they were quite linear.
EDIT:
and as far as MOTY, I really hope GE:S doesn't get it again. Their releases last year were horrible, but if rumors are true, the end of the month holds good things for us, very good indeed.

Yes, We will see Prey 2 in future but when nobody knows.
I do not think Half Life 2 isn't linear enough. Sure, sometime you sometimes have an open valley or so, but usually if you just drive forward, you can not get lost. Also many times you had a narrow tunnel or a street with a mountain on on side and a rough cliff at the other.
Ironically, i remember i got lost in Doom 3 when trying to find one of thoose airlocks when outside..just made it a split second before i would have died.
As far as the mod awards go.. well, Dystopia FTW. Though there are some other pretty good mods out there.
I didn't like the trailer of Moddb that much. They showed some scenes where i couldn't figure out what the difference was, like for L4D or so. Thats pointless. Either just use stuff that "works" in the few seconds they gave each mod there, or give them more time. Also they missed a lot of mods like Dystopia with Cyberspace, or Sucide Survival with the cartoony visuals and funny gameplay, who differ from standard gameplay and visuals. I bet there are a lot more mods like this out there.
That would represent the whole scene why better then the 25th scene of what could be taken from Battlefield, Unreal, Half-Life and a thousand more games. Nearly indistinguishable .

at the risk of sounding ignorant, what has Dystopia done this past year? The only times I've heard Dystopia mentioned on here, from what I understand it was from a release from years ago.
IMO a mod shouldn't get moty, unless they did something fantastic in 2k8.
edit:
my vote is actually going towards the flash portal levels for portal some of the best portal levels you'll ever play, ever.
edit:
