Moved to "Games Without Music", can always be relocated again if someone proves us wrong. I believe there are still others destined for that list as well.

The Ultima 7 & 8 links I added are CD rips from Origin soundtrack CD compilations, so I consider those fairly "pure". But the game rips could be fine too, its hard for me to draw the line. I'm fine with adding the new links you provided in either place (regular list or Further).

I instituted this from the suggestion by Eniena. I view it more as a completionist thing, archiving even the past state of GOG, though I am happy to include present sources as well. It's the lowest priority out of all of these for me, though. Thanks for the many items to flesh it out!

Checked Dark Matter, and it seems to have the majority of the game assets in proprietary .assets (surprise!) files. So likely that's another that will need a custom unpacker, and which is likely to never have a proper soundtrack release given the state of the game now.

I was under the impression that the .GOG file is actually an ISO (or a .BIN with a corresponding .CUE file). Or is the music inside the iso in a proprietary format? Let me grab Dragonsphere and check.

Edit: Dragonsphere is indeed a .GOG and .INST file (.BIN and .CUE respectively), though the files in the cd are in a .HAG format, with the files been global.hag, section#.hag (where # is 1 through 9) and speech.hag. Unsure if .HAG can be opened or not.

Well, we're far from the first to have a take on these. I've stumbled upon this thread here - no luck with the .HAG files.

I could try popping one of those open in a hex editor and see what the format looks like. Occasionally you'll find a header that gives it away, particularly in cases where someone has just tacked a different extension on a known format.

Ok, today's... harvest:

-- Legend of Grimrock - It would appear that the theme is the only music of the game; based on the only article about music on the game's site here, plus it was the only music included in the HIB 7.

-- Lucius - The music files are in the Lucius\Data\Music folder; they're mostly in OGG format with a few WAV ones.

-- Myst Masterpiece Edition - Used Revealer to extract CHANNEL.DAT, SELEN.DAT, STONE.DAT and CREDITS.DAT; lots and lots of WAV files (284 in total). I think that an additional link to the "The MYSTcommunity thread" will serve as a guide to select the music files and put them in some order.

I assume that the process is similar for Riven: The Sequel to Myst and Uru: Complete Chronicles, but since I don't have them on GOG, I'll try to convince a Myst-fan friend who does to check them out over the weekend.

-- Shadowrun Returns - Selected tracks on Gavin Parker's site (click on music); they're for on-line listening, but can be downloaded with a little effort.
I'm actually surprised that HBS hasn't put the soundtracks (game + DLC) up for sales anywhere.

-- Zafehouse: Diaries - There's a data.zip file and within it is a music folder, but the contents are in .xma format and I have no idea what to make out of them. Maybe someone knowledgeable could help?
Going by the names of the two files, it's quite likely that the game only has an Intro Theme and no further in-game music (I haven't played the game yet).

Removed from the list, as we have done with other games where the limited tracks GOG provides turn out to be the only proper music in the game.

While you're taking a look at files, could you also check out Runaway: A Road Adventure? IIRC, you got the Runaway games during the Winter Sale?

I did, I picked up the whole trilogy. I'll check that one out.

I opened the .xma files from Zafehouse in an editor and they have xwmaencode files. This is a DirectX variant of the Windows standard WMA format, so if these are indeed in that format, they should be convertible.

No luck with Runaway. All the data and resource files are large multipartite sets, and from what I could see in the hex editor, they are headless. So very likely they are encoded and/or compressed data blobs that are read by the application using an in-built reader. They are pretty noisy datasets, which is why I think they may be compressed as well. Only the ones in the Resources folder had the block-style regularity that you typically see in image/video/audio/font files. And even they were headless, with nonstandard lead blocks.

Actually the OST for XIII was from a remix album. There's never been an official release of the in-game soundtrack.

Weekend results:

The following were all checked by my assisting friends.

-- Dracula Trilogy - Here're the details given to me by my friend:
°~° Dracula - The Resurrection - Plenty of WAV files in the game's only directory, one just has to dig through them to separate the music ones from the rest.
°~° Dracula 2 - The Last Sanctuary - Plenty of WAV files in the DataM1 and DataM2 folders. Again, some work is required to pick the music files.
°~° Dracula 3 - The Path of the Dragon - The music files are inside cmn_cmn.bf in datas\cd1 and cmn_cmn.bf in datas\cd2.
Good news! Unpakke is a command line tool that can unpack those files with use of modules and libraries.
Unpakke requires a little more work than the other tools used so far, but the help file provides reasonably detailed instructions and it gets the job done (I tested it myself on my DVD version).
Sound and music files are in OGG format.

Unpakke supports 65 games in total, among them Return to Mysterious Island, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Games, The Night of the Rabbit and Trine 2: Complete Story.

-- Riven: The Sequel to Myst - Extract all .MHK files in Riven\data with Reveal. Again refer to the "The MYSTcommunity thread" to figure out which ones are the music files.

-- Return to Mysterious Island - it's exactly like Dracula 3 - The Path of the Dragon with the music files being inside cmn_cmn.bf in datas\cd1 and cmn_cmn.bf in datas\cd2. They can be extracted with Unpakke and are in OGG format (also tested it on my CD version).

-- Spycraft - A plethora of WAV files in SpyCraft\DATA, so sound, speech and music files are all in the same folder; no other way than to listen to each file and separate the actual music files from the rest as file size can be misleading.

-- Syndicate Wars - Three music files (OGG format) in Syndicate Wars\SWARS\SOUND.

-- Uru Complete Chronicles - This is an easy one, all sound and music files are in OGG format in the Myst Uru Complete Chronicles\sfx folder; no unpacking/ extracting required. There's also a subfolder with WAV files, but not sure if these are actual music files. Again refer to the "The MYSTcommunity thread" to separate the music files from the rest.

The friend that has Brütal Legend couldn't help out this weekend after all, so this one's still pending.

-- Gomo - I contacted Fishcow Studio and asked about the composer and the soundtrack; here's their reply: I was unsuccessful in finding anything about BHSound Factory online.

EDIT: I got follow up reply by the devs: -- Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude - MobyGames has a Music credits list (scroll down the page to the "Larry's Favorite Tunes for Swingers" section); these are all licensed tracks which can be bought on Amazon by following the links "Buy from amazon.com" on this site, except for the "Leisure suit larry theme (reprise)" and "Shortnin' bread".
