A few nights ago I was up WAY past my bedtime. I was very tired and should have gone to bed long ago. Surfing the net, I learn of the Origin $20 code. I go to their site, spend forever looking at their games, and settle on Mass Effect 1 or Mass Effect 2. I test their code and see the discount apply. I post here asking for advice on which one people think I should get. The deal says it lasts all week, so I figure I'll wake up the next day, read some advice posts, and pick the game.

I further learn of Amazon's AMAZING Square Pack deal. I go there, check it out, and see it also lasts for the week. I realize I'm barely awake and half-blind from not being able to keep my eyes open. Not wanting to spend money when I'm not clear-headed, I decide to go to bed and resolve things in the morning.

Next day, the masses abused the hell out of Origin's code, so they prematurely cancel it. Amazon's deal goes on hiatus as apparently they only had a limited number of serial keys and they were all sold.

I keep checking back on Amazon and just now see them announcing deals for next week, making me think the Square bundle is really finished.

Even though I was dead tired, I assumed both Origin and Amazon were companies that knew what they were doing and if a sale was announced for a week, then it would last for the week. We're talking digital copies here, so it's not as if they could run out or anything.

Regardless, I've now seen two fantastic opportunities slip by like sand through my fingers. What adds salt to the sand is that that first night I could have gotten both deals. I also just missed the Humble Bundle 6 by a day, though I prolly only liked Torchlight in their pack.

So I'm bummed out.

I've heard that they are re-sending out the survey / code for Origin, so if you were one of the people who were supposed to get a code, you should get one that works. Missing out on Humble Bundle 6 and the Amazon pack sucks though. Cross your fingers the games from Humble Bundle 6 trickle into future humble bundles I guess.

Only a few days until the big GoG announcement, so hopefully that'll make your week :)

Unfortunately this is the nature of online shopping and deals. We have to act quickly or risk missing out.
I tend not to bother these days - most of them don't work for Australia anyway.... bastards :P
I had that happen with hardware deals on Amazon and other stuff. I had it happen on Steam with a game that was discounted immensely for a short while (unadvertised) and then went back to full price while I thought about it. It's always disappointing. Don't know what to say except that I'm sure you'll find other good deals in time. Unless you really wanted all these games, you should probably be able to get them at pretty low cost with normal deals.
amazon. origin. beh.

Mourn not for these paltry distributors.

*know* that GoG is the true path.

I wouldn't worry. Unless you are afraid those games will disappear completely from the market, I'm pretty sure you will be able to buy them even cheaper in the future.

Teach me the ways of the GOG, Master. I wish to be a gamer, like my father!

It's possible some might be cheaper in the future, but not in a package like that. Ah well.
The Amazon Square pack has been up and down all week. Keep checking it.

Amazon is great. They may not be "DRM-free" since many of their sales are activation keys for services like Steam, but they have plenty of games that are indeed DRM-free which you may download and store as you like.

Their customer service is unsurpassed as well.

While the karach sings to me of the glories of DRM-free, it also sings to me of the best available deals.
Im looking forward to this gog announcement.
I spent hours, a couple of nights ago, refreshing that Amazon page waiting for the buy button to appear. It errored out on me a few times, but I got it!

I've learned my lesson about letting deals pass me by (games and sales on other useful items I could use or want) and never see them again and kick myself in the ass for letting it pass. Sometimes I can't buy it then and there, but I just don't want to feel that bottomless pit stomach feeling when I let it go..

Edit: Needs to wear my spectacles while typing - errors abound!

I share your pain with the Amazon pack. I really wanted it, but since it was a deal of the week I wanted to wait till after the GOG conference, and now it went poof.

Just think of it this way: Less backlog you'll never get around to playing!

I'm quite confident there will be even greater and greater packages, with even better deals. Just wait and see.
