Sorting through PMs seems like a softer blow than having people reading through the thread thinking the code(s) posted might still work only for them to then realize minutes after that they're used up and respond "aww, seems like I was too late".

I guess the potential to be disappointed exists either way, one just compartmentalizes it more effectively than the other.

If you would follow the instructions in the first post (once you've received the first PM and sent out the code, edit your post and replace HAVE with GIVEN), then the number of PM's should remain fairly limited. And then you don't really have to reply to every single one... people can see in your post that they were too late.
