Funnily enough, just 2 hours ago I was telling my bro about Bethsoft's servers being hacked into by lulzsec, and he asked "Can you imagine what would happen if they did the same thing to Minecraft?"

Of course I'm glad they only DDoSed it and not stole personal information, but still, damn. Same with EVE - glad they didn't steal user info on that one.

Aye and they hacked codemasters a few days ago got an email when i got back from a few days away. This has got to stop what they want to do have the internet clamped down as it will come to a point when we cant do niothing on the internet thanks to these hackers and companies ending up in a panic if they are going to be hacked or not while us poor buggers get caught in the crossfire.

Personally, I want this to continue... It tells you exactly who you can trust with your details. Lulzsec publishes details about their hacks... Most other hacking groups do not!

You have a point in cases where Lulzsec penetrates a site's defenses, which were weaker than they should have been. But these are just DDOS's. Protecting yourself from those is about as easy as protecting yourself from random strangers popping up from behind trees and punching you in the face while you take a stroll in the park.

Well, I don't want this to continue since it's going to affect me personally, but this certainly is a good reminder to all that the Internet is still an unstable cliff we're standing on, and putting faith on services like cloud computing might as well be as safe as skydiving in the midst of a volcanic eruption.

Any system can be hacked just as pretty much any lock can be picked if you spend enough time and have the right tools and skills. Also this published hacking side is nothing more than scarmongering or attention seeking - it benefits no one and just serves to heighten internet fears and possible also result in a massive clampdown on things.

I think the first rule of the internet is that you don't trust anyone with your details - I may give them out, but I don't trust them with it. There are some who have personal details by default (banks, government, etc ...) and there's little that can be done about that. For the rest, one might give out personal details for commerce or other reasons, but one should always treat information given out on the web to anyone as vulnerable. Anyone can be hacked. This is one reason why I like that GOG doesn't store much if anything about me.

Until fairly recently, it seemed Minecraft routinely DDoS'ed itself ;-)
