robobrien: Lets have a big, heated discussion about which is the better gaming platform, PC or The Console. That would be awesome.
And of course any owner of a PC is far more mature than a console user, everyone knows that.

Yea here we go again...
To be honest I actually thought this forum was one of those places were people just loved games.
Guess I was wrong...

But I love games... :(
PC GAMEZ!!! :p

StingingVelvet: Who cares about cross-platform play anyway?
avatar
WingedKagouti: It allows for a much larger pool of multiplayer opponents.

If you ruin the game to enable it though, no one is playing it anyway.

KavazovAngel: Still, they suck! :p

There is a large number of GOGers who are consolers, many, if not all, of whom I think do not deserve to be associated with the idiot generation of today.

It was kind of a troll joke, no offense meant. ;)
But that video is epic. :D
I actually had a PS2. For about 6 months. Probably used it less than 1 month. Couldn't sell it fast enough. FF-X killed it for me. Couple of the driving games weren't too bad, but that genre doesn't hold my attention well enough for me to regularly spend £40 for a new one.
Hooked up a keyboard and mouse to it to play RTS games, and it was absolutely dreadful. non-intuitive menus unlike on PC platform versions. Horrible gameplay.
Had a tinker with a friend's Dreamcast, once. Almost the same experience, just different games.
Still have my PS1 somewhere, and probably play FF7 once in a blue moon, but TBH, it doesn't grip me much any more.
Never tried an Xbox/360, and don't think I ever will. I just don't want to have yet another wodge of cash get flushed down the pan.
Call me spoiled, but consoles are for 8 year old kids to play platform and racing games on. Maybe some decent RPGs can be done, but since the days of MegaDrive, I haven't seen one.
Delightful. Elitist PC "We're best, bitchez!" snobbery. That's mature. Grow up, dude.
They're 2 similar objects designed to do a job thats superfically comparable but they really can't be deeply compared.
Analogy time!
A console is a sports car, designed to accomplish the task of driving fast on paved roads, by contrast the PC is a rugged offroad truck capable of traversing almost any surface well. The consoles, their controllers and interface designs are all built to accomplish the task of playing arcade style games with a relatively limited control set whereas PCs are desgined to be business machines first and entertainment devices second which allows for the luxury of far more complexity and precision at the expense of requiring more complexity and precision.
About the only games that would really work well in cross platform play would be turn based stuff since there'd be no need to level the playing feild by introducing compensatory handholding autoaim for the consoles or handtying automiss for the PC.
Putting 2 machines designed to do similar tasks in substantially different ways side by side and expecting them to perform the same is as unrealistic as taking a ferrari on a cross country rally and beyond the few game types that would REALLY support it (and they're not the popular game types), it'd be a classic case of trying to please all and end up pleasing none
