The most accurate way of describing this release would be "most complete yet", as it still is missing about 5 minutes footage. But the, besided the extra minutes they got from these Brazilian reels, they finally managed to cut all the scenes in correct order, as they were ment to be in the first place.

Anyway, I'm gonna buy the blu-ray. The stills I've seen from it are magnificent. Very lovingly cleaned.
Meh, saw a nearly complete print a few months ago in the theater, not something I want to watch over and over.

nondeplumage: Yep, the one they found in Brazil or wherever. None of the stores around here open for another hour or two, but I'm going to be calling to make sure they got it in. They had better have it in...if they know what's good for them.

Better. Netflix is streaming the new version.

MsbS: Brazil, where hearts were entertained in June. And yet another brilliant movie.
All the mentions of Brazil also popped the movie into my head, and of course the theme song. Such amazing visuals in that movie. It's always humorous to me when movies from the 80s look so much more amazing than movies released now. The dream sequences, so breath taking...

I'll stop derailing this topic now. :P
Cage of Freedom! That's our prison! Where the jailer and captive combine! I loved the 80's release with pop music :p
Saw metropolis once a few years ago with live music, seems like the ideal way to watch it instead of pre-recorded. Still, If i had a bluray player I'd pick it up. Which reminds me of what to buy...

YIPPEE!
you lot should check your lofts/attics/strange storage spaces. If you find an original release poster for this film, it's worth a small fortune. Tens of thousands, easily.

Some friends of mine have one hanging in their bathroom.
an original. not a repro. ;)

They're all thought to have been destroyed...but some people might have one knocking around from a grandparent somewhere....

knew I'd seen it somewhere : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/4438948.stm

nondeplumage: The fully restored print of the 1927 movie. On blu-ray. Buy this movie. Give it your money and you will have good fortune for all your life.
Excellent. Thank you for the reminder, nondeplumage. I work for an art-house theater and am ipso facto a big film buff. I have been tracking this bit of fortuitous restoration news for the better part of a year. I envied the summer showings of the restored print in other parts of the states that we were unable to do. This piece of cinema history is going to go nicely side-by-side my KINO Ultimate Edition of Nosferatu, Image Collector's Edition of Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and my Criterion Edition of Pandora's Box. All hail the golden age of German Expressionist silent film!
Another triumph for Kino: they did the impossible and cleared up all the licensing problems with the Moroder cut. It is now available and totally radical!
