Damn the boss is here. Looks like no more metroid for a while.

katsaysmeh: Kirby's Adventure (is that the name)
Indeed it is. ^_^

(NES) and [url=http://www.mobygames.com/game/snes/kirby-super-star]Super Star (SNES) are the best entries in the series. (imo)

Haven't played Super Star, since I can't seem to find a copy, but I'm tempted to just play it on an emulator. I really love the Kirby games. :3

I found the original Metroid pretty unpleasant; an exploration game on a system whose graphics made all the areas I went to look exactly the same, at least to me, with no automap. I gave up on it pretty early, though.

I believe there was a remake for the DS called Kirby Super Star Ultra, it may be easier to find than a SNES cart of the original.

In addition, the SNES version is called Kirby's Fun Pak in Europe, which might be the reason why you can't find it.

morciu: Sweet thanks for the map thing. It's not cheating, is it?
I've never played a metroid game before so I picked up this NES classic series cart for the gba. Figures it's a good opportunity to catch up on some of the classics i missed out on.
It is cheating, you're supposed to draw your own.

I'm not judging you though, I used a map.

Super Metroid (Metroid 3) is where the series really hit its stride in my opinion though. I'd heavily recommend Metroid Zero Mission, the remake of the original that runs on the Metroid (4) Fusion engine. It's easier too and has a built in auto-map and actually includes the original as well.

Once you explore deep into the planet different areas start to emerge each with their own challenges, structure and amazing music!

Here are some screenshots: (Images are slight spoilers if you haven't played, attached for the curious.) -_^

try playing it on a wii u gamepad.. just tried some nes (metroid included) games on it and, even though it's a damn fine controller, I couldn't play it.
same for fighting games
for me it's a can't do.. but the wiimote works like a charm

I think I know what you mean. I have a GameCube with the Game Boy Player attachment. Sadly the CameCube controller's little D-Pad wasn't really up to the task of being used as the primary control input. (imo.)

Ya back in the day if you wanted maps you had to make your own, hell I still remember playing the original Wizardry games with graph paper set next to my computer to map out the dungeons, took months for some of the lower levels but it was a lot of fun.
Metroid wasn't really all that difficult, just lacked a lot of quality of life stuff that the sequels had.

Like kneeling or diagonal aiming. And having to find a powerup to get the same amount of range. Having to refill all your energy tanks each time you played was pretty obnoxious too.

Never really cared for Zero Mission. The Zero Suit section of the game killed it for me. :(

JudasIscariot: Hehehehe. I remember playing the original Metroid on original hardware and I didn't have a map :P

Step it up :P

(Kidding of course :) )
*raises hand* I have vague memories of doing the same. Except I kinda sucked at it back then. :(

The first Castlevania, as well. I think I still have the cartridge lying around somewhere...

katsaysmeh: I joined the NES party waaay too late, because I wasn't even born when the console came out, so when I got a used one with a few games (including Metroid), I drew a map of the game. Tons of work, but made it a lot easier... I guess.

The map someone else posted looks a lot better though. :D

Imho all NES games are pretty tough, except for Kirby's Adventure (is that the name) maybe. I recently bought Castlevania III. Help.

JudasIscariot: Castlevania III, yes, another glorious game from the NES era :) Use Grant as much as you can as he's the one to use during those levels that move up on their own.

Also, Grant is the only one that can walk outside the bounds of the levels at times :)
Yes, listen to Judas and don't try to finish the game with Alucard like I attempted.
