Elmofongo: Sorry than I don't know how else to describe it without just calling it "Metal Gear" but mind you I am not refering to the NES port that AVGN reviewed.
Just call it "Metal Gear". That's the game's title. You don't say "DOS Doom" or "PC Doom" to distinguish the original Doom from its many atrocious console ports, right?

shadowknight2814: Checkpoints? Really? You didn't save by doing codec calls to save? That's a weird change from the PS version.
Actually the saving system from the PSX version was still intact. IIRC they also introduced an alternate way to save that didn't require you to call Mei-Ling, a "save game" item in the pause menu or something, but all in all it was the same system.

I think what karnak1 was referring to was the fact that (just like in the console version), no matter where or when you save, if you load the game you will start at the last checkpoint before you saved (usually at the door through which you entered the current room), not in the exact same spot and situation.

That tends to confuse people unfamiliar with the series, who only know/heard of the most popular titles. You mention Metal Gear, they'll think of Metal Gear Solid 1. Hence the need to clarify that it's the MSX version, or the "original Metal Gear that came before MGS1", or something like that.

Some peeps here on GOG might not appreciate Konami's humor.
Not surprised at the reveal, since he revealed he wanted to do a PC MGS 5 sometime ago.

That's a nice Photoshop even though I'm not a fan of steam. Does Kojima know about GOG?
oh yeaaaaaaaaaahh :D
Yay for MOAR MGS on PC. Revengeance didn't please me enough. At least it was a good move for them to put it on Steam.
I think this pretty much means the "platform exclusive" era is over. I doubt many big developers will do exclusives in the future. Shame we probably won't see a PC release of the MGS HD Collection.

Well, I just heard there's a big software producer made a raiding tomb game for a certain console exclusive. =s

And since when is MGS exclusive to consoles? The only MGS games not released on the PC were 3, 4 and the portable ones, and maybe they could appear on the PC one day as a "MGS collection". I think the only MGS game that has 0 chances of ever appearing on another platform is Twin Snakes because it was co-developed with Nintendo and Silicon Knights.

It's a timed exclusive, though.

The PC port of MGS2 was terrible though, like unplayable. I could not get the graphics to work properly on any machine I've tried, and that's with the patch.

Well you answered your own question, the series has been console exclusive since MGS3, which is like a decade old now. And in general I mean Konami which is a very console-centric Japanese developed coming to PC/Steam will have a big impact, I doubt many developers will be doing big exclusives because at this point not releasing on PC is throwing money in the garbage, considering how large the market is now.

I mean where are all the big exclusives for the new consoles? Ryse is coming to PC, Last of Us is a port of a last-gen game.... so what is left? I think it's enough to pronounce the console exclusive era as dead.

If it stays on Xbox indefinitely I'll eat my hat.

Confirmed as timed exclusive. It's M$ so I don't worry as much, exclusives like Alan Wake made it on PC again for the 2nd time, eventually. If it's a Sony exclusive, I'll be alot more worried. Then again, fortunately, I'm not really into Tomb Raider in the first place but still sucky news.

F4LL0UT: Just lost another reason to buy a PS4. None left for now.
What, aside from the fact that it's going to be Steam-only?

I'm still buying the PS4 version.

jamyskis: I'm still buying the PS4 version.
But do you already have a PS4?

For a lot of people this game is/was a reason to *buy* the PS4. It certainly was for us. We were going to get one when this game came out. Now it might be longer.

It's not Steam-only, it's also available for 0.00$ on TPB.

Also the PC version will look and run better than the PS4 version, guaranteed.

I really don't get what the big fuss is when Konami had already released games on the PC, like the MGS series and Silent Hill years ago. In fact, Konami has been selling games on Steam for ages.

http://store.steampowered.com/publisher/Konami%20Digital%20Entertainment%2C%20Inc.

If Square, for example, decided to release a recent Final Fantasy game on the PC (well, excluding MMOs, for obvious reasons), Dragon Quest or Kingdom's Hearts, series that have always been traditionally console-exclusive, then i would agree with you.

About the PC market being "large", would you please post any source for that? Unless you count subscription-based MMOs, Facebook games and F2P, no, it's not that large, and not even close to being as big as the console market by a long shot. Want proof? Just take a look at financial reports from publishers.

This generation is not even 9 months old yet and you want to claim that there are no games? Oh, c'mon. Evey new generation suffers from a lack of good games at the beggining, and the PS4 and the Xbox One are no exceptions. "Oh look, console exclusives are dead because this 9 month old console doesn't have enough exclusives". I mean, really?

Sure, the age of exclusive THIRD-PARTY games is gone since the last generation, except for some japanese publishers. But Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony have tons of first-party and second-party studios.

Of course Ryse is coming to the PC, the IP belongs to Crytek and they are bleeding money right now. Of course they will try to make a quick buck out of it. Not to mention that they refused the deal to make Ryse 2 (in which they would have to hand over the IP to Microsoft). Since Crytek's plan is to become a F2P-only company, that's probably the last retail game they will ever release.

Releasing Gears of War, Halo or Forza would have been way more relevant.

What an asshole. It's no wonder so many developers and publishers are moving into F2P.

No shit, Sherlock. You want to compare a U$400 piece of hardware with a PC with unlimited budget? Smartass.

Really? I'm sure the PC version will continue to run beautifully when you try to sell it or play it 10-15 years down the line.

Pheace: But do you already have a PS4?
Yes, I do. I actually bought it for Watch Dogs as well, and pretty much everything else that I would have bought on PC were it not for the use of Steam, Origin and UPlay as nooses.

If the DRM insanity ends, I'll gladly build myself a new proper gaming PC. If it doesn't, well, I'm happy with my PS4 and Wii U so far.

Although, honestly, seeing the reaction of the assholes in the "PC master race" (yes, including Crosmando being a complete and utter prick up there) to this announcement is actually part of the reason why I don't like to associate myself with PC gaming. The PC gaming community is so saturated with arrogant cunts that I feel ashamed to be part of that.

No, they can't just be happy that they're getting it on their platform and that there's more choice. No, they have to be complete and utter cunts about it and gloat at the "console peasant noobs" about how there is now supposedly "no reason to get a console".

Fuck all of them, I say.
