When the lulz ends...
It's not over. Both Anonymous and LulzSec are claiming that kid just set up their IRC channel, but actually has nothing to do with either group otherwise. Their openly declared cyber-war is still on.
A faking mazing, NOT!

A European person is being sent to the US to face trial... What the fuck?

They only said he might be extradited if it turns out he was directly involved in the attack on the CIA. That extradition would only happen after they complete his prosecution in the UK. Basically, if this guy was more involved than the groups say he was, he's screwed on an international level.

What? Oh, you like my tag? Every time I read online news, I see this same spam and it makes me laugh. I have also used it for irony in a few posts but I will drop it because of my short attention span prevents me from enjoying anything for more than an hour.

first of all i'm going to say they said that only to divert blame away from him and protect their minions.

secondly, they now have the computer of the person who set up the IRC, and I'd wager, for him to have the task given to him, he's had, at least somewhere along the line, correspondence with one of, if not the, head founder(s) of lulzsec. that means if this particular script kiddie doesn't make it a habit of running a magnet across his hard drive every 2-3 days there's going to be at least a trail to a major player in Lulzsec, that in turn could lead to uncovering the major players. Demoralising the rest of the group because that impenetrable defense of 'we're untouchable the internet is anonymous' may just have been shattered with a rusty sledge hammer.

That moment would be so... precious. I am pessimistic, though. I would rather they kept a lid on grabbing this guy and then Osamanate (I wonder if I am the first to use this word) the ringleaders. I am sure many of these guys are capable of dropping off the net.

I don't think they will just drop off the net, I think they're mostly too young and too reliant on the net to do anything about it at this point. In order to truly drop off of the Grid, they'd need to sell up and move. Cancel all contracts with everyone, move somewhere secretly and pay in cash.

I don't think the Lulzsec members really have the conviction, funds, or 'skill' to actually pull this off.

I never said they were telling the truth, just that this whole bullshit isn't over. Even if the guy they caught is more than the group is admitting, it is going to take time to figure that out and in the meantime, LulzSec and Anonymous are going to keep doing their thing.

However, there is also another option you didn't consider: this guy that was caught could easily have been set up as a patsy for the police to catch by LulzSec and Anonymous. He could simply be a "red herring" designed to keep the police of their track.

Members? Most likely not. The leadership? Now that they have re-joined forces with Anonymous, definitely.

they'll still keep doing their shit yes, but they'll lose numbers.

He could be, in which case the Intel source could prove to be a lead.

when you've got several government agencies on your back it's only a matter of time, and considering the nature of 4Chan geographically, I doubt they'll have their governments hiding them.
I wonder what Lulzsec wil do the next time ? Will they shut down the airport navigation systems ?

Current rumor is they are responsible for the Netflix outage this weekend that still isn't completely fixed, but no one is admitting/claiming responsibility for anything (so far).

So you are saying the only way to bring these guys to justice is to develop my hacking skills so that I can track them down and Gary Faulkner their asses?

Can someone help me put together a montage?
