You know, the optimist in me thought, for a brief moment, that maybe Spec Ops: The Line would resonate enough to put a stop to this kind of crap. This hits pretty much every point I can't stand about modern, big-published shooters: glorification of war through American eyes, forced homogeneity of military shooters, non sequitur inclusion of licensed music and an advertising team that is trying way too hard to inappropriately tug the audience's heartstrings (at the same time cheapening their own message through a forced notion of duty and patriotism). Even if you take away the piss-poor ad campaign and generic war premise, the initial Medal of Hono(u)r was a poor corridor shooter with a narrow FOV that let your AI-controlled companions have all the fun. I'm willing to give almost any game a chance, but if EA are this intent to stay the course with their advertising, I would imagine that they've forced the same kind of lackadaisical philosophies on the development team, Danger Close. Fuck this game.

EDIT: And a quick note about Linkin Park: I actually enjoyed their first album when it was released in my middle school days. Talk about a band that has completely tripped over their own popularity. Looks like Mike Shinoda wants to be a singer now. Of course, when you get in the studio and realize you can't sing, maybe you should just, I don't know, not sing? Instead, he powers up the auto-tune and flatlines it. Brilliant idea.

Considering that the game is named after the Congressional Medal of Honor, which is given out by the US Congress and not the British parliament, I think the spelling is pretty much correct.

I would agree, but I get teased for my American spelling here sometimes :-)

Hey EC- who's Bethany Summers?!

I love and hate you both in equal measure.

Bethany Summers was my Go Fish partner on Fridays. We used to play for quarters.

EC-: ...
(I haven't looked at the link.) Supply and demand. Presumably people like the action and intensity in these games, so thus far they're selling pretty well, and everyone is copying Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. So when people get tired of that, it will fade away I think, and developers/publishers will focus on something new-ish. Of course, you could protest or just not buy it. :P Personally I want games that are "fun" rather than trying to be preachy either way (and Spec Ops seems like it was trying to be all emotional on the other end of the spectrum). That's why (and given the lack of time I have) I've been playing Blosics 3 lately.

EDIT: I actually like the song, and I'll listen to it w/o watching the video.

Hey, I wont be ignored!

That being said, both can go die for all I care.
I honestly didn't know the Medal of Honor Series was still around...or Linkin' Park for that matter. We must be about the same age, EC, because I remember both these things fondly from my middle school days. Another reminder nostalgia is best left in the past. The current ad campaign: I actually like games that attempt to depict early 20th century warfare in the manner closest to how it appears. Racism, hyper-nationalism, chauvinism, and exceptionalism, these are all things that really get me immersed in a war game. It's a window into the gritty reality to which the post-colonial world has awakened. However, a counter-weight must be included to highlight the fallacies and ultimate self-destructive nature of all aspects of Jingoism. It's almost as if the shooter games industry stands to profit by reviving these now-fringe-philosophies while forgetting the unseemly elements in order to push their games. I didn't get that from this advert but it's a tendency that has been ever present in gaming and will continue to be so long as there is profit to be made from warfare, and there will always be profit so long as you aren't being killed.

That was sensational, especially the bass lines, nicely done. :) (going to buy and listen to their new album tomorrow)

@those that disagree, you can die for all I care. (since that is the only way to keep up with the classy-ness of this community these days)

I wish they had repeated the chorus a few more times, especially at the end there. It's a great song, but it isn't as satisfying as it could be, imo, and I think that would have helped.

Well if you want to get technical the official medal name is just "Medal of Honor", the "Congressional" is a common misnomer - it's given by the President in the name of Congress

However, your actual point still stands, yes the American spelling is correct :P

EDIT: Is anyone else having trouble with the edit button removing carriage-returns in posts? It has happened to me several times now.

I don't know why people will play Medal of Honor Warfighter's Multiplayer when its basically a close quarters battlefield, in which Battlefield 3 already has close quarters maps, along with competition, such as Counter Strike Global Offensive, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, and Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Online.
