Any comments?
Yes, I've never read so much about keyboards in my whole damn life. And I have no clue what all of you were talking about.

But I wish you and your new keyboard all the best for the future!

Thanks! I am very pleased that I did all of this research for myself, since keyboards are something that I knew very little enough. It's silly, considering that we use one a lot on a daily basis.

Thank you! I've been looking for a good mechanical keyboard, but as said earlier I've only found black and red switches on keyboards with Swedish/Finnish layout (or keyboards with other Switches would cost at least twice as much as that Filco one). Now I know where to get my next keyboard, the only question left is: blue or brown switches?

Glad to have been of help!

I ordered from there and it seems that they also do international delivery. They also seem to have Swedish layouts, but I'm not sure if they have it for this particular one. I gave them a call earlier this morning and they were very helpful and assisted me with all kinds of queries about mechanical keyboards.

They also have their own forum on geekhack:

I suppose the only difference between the brown and blue switches is that the latter makes a click and has a slightly higher actuation force (50g as opposed to 45g). I wanted one where the actuation force was as low as possible. Have a look at the end of my original post, there's a video of a dude typing on all the different switches, if that's any indication. My keyboard will arrive tomorrow, so can also let you know what if feels like, if you're interested. Unfortunately, I haven't tried the blue switches so unable to give a personal comparison. If it's mostly for typing, I'd imagine brown to be the better choice.

Oh and the Filco one comes with three different switches, black, brown and blue, so make sure that you place your order on the one of your choice!

Yeah, that's the one I found, and them having Swedish layout being the reason I'm happy.

I would use one of my Model M's (my favourite keyboard ever) but it's starting to get difficult finding a motherboard with PS/2 ports, I would probably miss the Windows key as well, also my current desktop doesn't really allow for the height of them (keyboard tray, and the desk itself is too high to use a keyboard on comfortably).

1.) Start with choosing switches!

This is the most important and therefore very first step you have to make: Choose your favourite switches! They best way to do it is by trying them out at a local store. However, since you have some preferences (no black switches, but fast response), here is my recommendation, that is based on personal experience:

MX Browns seem to fit best for you. They are tactile (which Blacks and Reds are not) so typing is no problem at all, and they are not clicky (like the MX Blues), which might come in handy for FPS player (no issues when "double-clicking" the same key). BUT! I recently switched to Blues (from Browns) and after two weeks I felt that those are even better. It is a personal thing, but I like the clear feedback you get from the clicking. Also you truely don't have to bottom out every key, which lets you type even faster. You should definetly try both of them, Browns and Blues! Forget about the other switches (Clears or Topre).

Here is a good overview for some more information: http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide

2.) Choosing a keyboard

This is not as difficult as some people think it is. Again, you should try out some keyboards at a store, if it is possible for you. Things you should look for are: How huge are the keys? (Yes, there are [small] differences!) Can you lie down your wrists in front of the keyboard? Can you adjust the angle of the keyboard? How is the keyboards quality? What amount of money do you want to spend?

After all my personal favourite is the DAS keyboard. (http://www.daskeyboard.com) They have a clear layout (no macro or multimedia buttons), a solid quality and they offer both Browns and Blues! Also the keyboard is not too expensive. I had more than 10 mechanical keyboards so far (from ceap to very expensive) and the DAS keyboard I like most. However, one thing the DAS doesn't have: A PS/2 connection. They use USB. :)

Edit: I just saw they now even include a USB to PS/2 connector, so you can also use your PS/2 port. :)

I hope I could help you a little. Feel free to ask me more, if you want to. :p

Rhineland: Snip...
Das Keyboard also re-did all the electronics about two years ago, so while a usb connection gets you 6 key rollover, using the PS/2 adapter gets you full NKRO.

...which in fact is another plus for any FPS player. :)
Reminds me of the joyous keyboarding from the old Northgate Omnikey units. Loud, but typing on it was a dream. Still got mine sitting in the basement but it hasn't seen use in a very long time. Hanging on to it for nostalgia, I suppose.
I actually ended up changing my order to:
Filco Majestouch-2 NKR 108, Red Switch, Japanese
Seems to be basically the same thing, but with 108 letters as opposed to 105 and it has red switches instead of brown.
Just strapped her in and she's a real beaut... Just wow!
