Fenixp: Oh my, you have stuffed so many negations in there that I think you've went all the way back to a positive :-P
Haha, good point. There is a reason why so many of my posts contains the "Edited at" line :D.

Well it's probably a Czech thing - the terrifying double negative of doom. Where any of your more complicated sentences can be interpreted in any way when looked at in a different light,

Litharian: When I think mature, I think consequences, unmitigated mindscrews, ect. Something that makes you think, something that makes you pay for every action. System Shock counts, as does Planescape and 'I have no Mouth'. Teenagers are still going to play them, but hey.
Using the consequences theme (and I agree with you), wouldn't the "Mid-to-Later-Ultimas" (like 4-5-6 and maybe even 7&8) count?

Khadgar42: I have no mouth and I must scream brought me to this idea of a topic so while I never played it I think maybe it's fine.
Planescape: Torment: Well I think kids back then loved that game, I'm sure. Considering adding a new graphical Engine and first person perspective today's TEENS would love Planescape
King of Dragon Pass is fairy tale putting you in command of your tribe, it's educational and quite interesting and fun for kids as well, so no.
Don't know about Sacrifice wouldn't be you if you hadn't posted it but since you said its appropriate for all ages, it's not what I meant.
Sanitarium I don't know, maybe.
Inquisitor is just trying very hard to be mature but actually I have the feeling it is not, maybe because its broken or something.
Witcher 1 and 2 are trying to be mature for teenagers. Good games, really good games but they are for kids and teens.
King of Dragon Pass is not for kids. It includes genocide, and there are mentions of rape as well...

Reever: [...] In fact, I think most of them are over 20 (and yeah, there are females as well, but you wouldn't call them immature for liking cheesy romance plots, now would you?)
[...]

Khadgar42: Well, I don't want to overdo this subject but that doesn't really sound like the things I'm looking for. I don't mind one bit sharing my favorite Romance with Liara and how I felt so utterly overjoyed rebuffing Ashley, but in all honesty during that moments I felt devilishly and liberatingly childish, free of my normal expected behaviour as an adult.

Anyway...

Well, maybe, mabye that's it. I'm looking for games where my "grown-up sense" are useful, needed maybe even challenged, where my duty ladden, conscious-driven adult mindset is not left at the door but actually fullfills an important role.
I don't mind leaving it at the door waiting in childish anticipation of the wonders to see, the moment I fire up a great game, but I have really trouble finding those kind of games I mentioned before. Call them mature or how ever you like it's not my fault maturity = boobs and violence according to the media.
I wasn't arguing what you wanted anyway, since you already said it's what you subjectively think is mature. Just wanted to point out how mature people can enjoy things that one thinks are for children/teenager. And since when is being happy a "non-mature" thing? I get the impression that your idea of "mature" is no fun, or something (I'll admit I haven't read all of your posts though, so I might have the wrong impression!).

And speaking about mature, I just finished reading "I have no mouth and I must scream". Damn. At least it wasn't a totally terrible ending :D

Fenixp: Well it's probably a Czech thing...
I guess so. But I have never been good at learning languages, so maybe it's just me :). Articles are still my biggest scarecrow :). Oh and conditions which sucks because I use them even more than average Czech.
I believe all games that exist, from a Pokemon game to Postal 2 to Planescape Torment can be for "mature" people. I believe almost all games that exist can be for everyone, no matter level of maturity, gender, race etc. Being mature doesn't mean you only like certain games, movies, books, music etc. And you don't need a fully developed brain in order to enjoy sex, violence etc in your entertainment. So yes, games for mature people exist.

Not here, just to argue with you though. I'm also here to be helpful. It seems what you are looking for are games, non mature(your definition) people wouldn't be able to enjoy? Rising Storm and Red Orchestra 2 requires you to be a responsible adult(being mature is being a responsible adult, yes?). If you choose, the commander role, your entire team depends on you for leadership and artillery strikes...so if you are childish and not take your role seriously(and screw over your team), then everyone on your team will hate you, insult you and probably TK you nonstop until you quit. If you choose to be sniper and don't take out enemy snipers, then you are letting your team down too. If you choose to be a squad leader and not assist your TL and die too often, you are letting down your team. Then there will be consequences, you will have to deal with that are unpleasant. I think any game that requires people having to work together, be responsible in order for people to have fun is a game for mature people. Maybe you are looking for games that don't cater to those who are superficial and impatient because you believe being mature is not being superficial and impatient?

Skipping the discussion about your subjective definition of "mature" and trying to find stuff that might fit it, how about:

Trauma
Depression Quest
Cart Life

;)

LOL those are depressing games! I think it will fit OP request perfectly. But I bet he will throw a hissy fit if he found out a teenager playing one of those games!

Khadgar42: Do they exist?

I really have trouble finding one of my games mature.
No, I'm not talking about hentai or porn games.
And NO I'm not talking about games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age which want to be mature but fail in a very teenage way.

And before you start ranting about the word "mature" I meant it in the sense of
games for adults, games which aren't really interesting and appropriate for chidren.

Are there any?
It would make it easier for people to help you, if you gave us a more clear definition of mature. Your definition in your first post "I meant it in the sense of games for adults, games which aren't really interesting and appropriate for chidren." is not very clear. In your eyes, what separates an adult's mind from a child's mind? My answer to this question is an adult understand the importance of responsibility and knows more than a child due to spending more time on this Earth. Unfortunately, a lot of people, even after reaching the age of 30 are still not adults in my eyes. The father who abandons his family, for example, is no adult. What is your answer?

If depressing is what you want, and you don't mind 'Modules' of a game.. I'm just going to set A Dance with Rogues here and then run away really fast.

If depressing is what he wants, I suggest he play the same game the guy in the attached pic, down below is playing.

Ouch. And that's most certainly only for adults.

I think its just a different kind of fun.
Watching Apocalypse Now! as a kid / teen was different from watching it as an adult.
I was much more aware of the narrative and was much more able to savour the content of the movie. It (or rather I) had to mature, like a good wine. So it felt good = it was fun, probably far more when I was a teenager.
David Lynch's films are something similar, too.

You definitely come across this when you reach a certain age. Some things might be still fun, others become fun on a whole different experience level. So, in short: No, I really mean that "mature" gaming can or even should be fun.

So your definition of a mature game is a game that can only be fully enjoyed, when you have reached a certain level of intelligence and wisdom?
