SirPrimalform: RTD era was incredibly London-centric. Those national averages you were quoting are dragged down by rural populations being almost entirely white. Most cities of a decent size in the UK are very diverse though, I'm not sure where you're getting your ideas of what is and isn't realistic.
I live in Philadelphia. You don't need to instruct me in racially diverse cities.

The point is 4 companion relationships in a row that are all interracial doesn't happen unless you are trying to make a point. I thought he made that point with a sledgehammer, not a pen. It was slightly annoying because it took me out of the show. It's not a huge deal, just a little irksome.

I don't really care who agrees and feel no need to discuss it further, because a ton of people can't talk about these things without labeling others as racist so they can feel enlightened and superior.

I won't post on the subject again.

1. Rose and Mickey, interracial
2. Rose and The Doctor, not
3. Donna and Lance, interracial
4. Rose and The Doctor's hand, no
5. Martha and Mickey, no
6. Amy and Rory, no

Admittedly I haven't watched season 7 yet but I doubt there are 8 or more companions of mixed ethnicities aboard the TARDIS all at once to make a 4-in-a-row streak.

But—on that note—it still isn't clear to me how any number of interracial couples is unbelievable at all. Most of the couples I know in real life are interracial. It's hardly a rare event.

StingingVelvet: You can go on feeling like a truly enlightened person surrounded by racists and homophobes
I didn't call you a racist or homophobe. Why, do you figure those might be fitting labels for someone who thinks there are too many queer people and interracial couples?

Anyway, there really is no point in continuing this tangent any longer. I'm done too.

Bon voyage, Matt Smith.

Not debating the subject again but to clear this up...

1. Rose and Mickey
2. Martha and her Fiance
3. Donna and Husband 1
4. Donna and Husband 2

Martha got ten seconds with Mickey in RTD's final episode, yes. No I don't count romance that never happened with the Doctor. Yes I am leaving out a ton of others that were not companions. Yes I said "I bet he's Black" when Wilf said Donna had a new husband and laughed when he was.

I continue to be confused by how SV thinks that having minorities in Doctor Who is somehow unbelievable - and a negative to the show - but whatever; haters gonna hate, I guess.

Bring on John Hurt!
Anywho, lets move on and focus on the future of the show than nitpicking who was cast for what role in the past. Lets see everyone's list for a new Doctor categories:

Female
Male
Age group

Also do you think the new Doctor should be getting a new T.A.R.D.I.S console, even though they had just made a new one for Matt Smith. To me it would feel odd if the new regeneration did not get one.

Since the TARDIS can change her interior and has a tendency to adapt to her 'Thief', yes, I would find it fitting if the new Doctor gets a new (or at least changed) console as well.

I wasn't, I was wondering where you get your ideas of what is realistic for London from.

I'd quite like it if they stuck with this one for a little bit and then got a new one part way through the next Doctor's first series.

I imagine they'll keep the current one for a little bit since they just changed it (and probably don't want to have spent all the money designing a new set to then do another new one a year later). I also really like the new interior (which took me a couple of episodes to like it, but I like it now).

Psyringe: But there's simply no indication at all that anybody sees the latest Doctors as such colossal failures that a reboot of that magnitude would be required.
No, I'm not aware of any drop in popularity since David Tennant left (not saying there hasn't been one). But they do manage to make quite a few changes along the way - and to be fair the show does lend itself to that quite well.

I love some of the stats for London currently show that Anglo-Caucasian is an official minority there...

Tbh I think the highly multicultural nature of the UK is surprising to non-europeans.

Iirc live viewing numbers are down /slightly/ (we're talking 0.1 million type things which are likely due to it's move to an autumn/spring show) while timeshifted viewing is up..

So in other words, it would probably be at an all time high if it retained the same slot. Last series' time slot didn't really work for me. Kept having to watch the repeat /iPlayer. But that's probably just me.

In case you missed the edit on the original post...

Edit: I've decided that this thread should be regarding anything Doctor Who, in case any faithful GOG forum goer just happens to be bored...not that we're REALLY bored :P. Post pictures, comics, news, crowd funding projects, opinions, or what not...why not?

Speaking of that, what about the change of the theme song between the last two Doctors. Will there be another after the new Doctor settles into his role?

I never said that, ever. Get some fucking reading comprehension or stop replying to posts.

Not to sound angry or bring this debate up again, but it's so fucking frustrating when people take any comment about race or sexuality and turn it into "I don't like Black people." Shove that presumptuous bullshit up your ass, seriously.
