I've just realised that both my fraud alerts from Barclays came within a day or two of buying something from Gog.com... strange. In both cases there was nothing fraudulent on my account, so I couldn't figure out what had triggered it.
Why is Gog based in Cyprus anyway? Same reason as Amazon.co.uk is based in Jersey?

GOG is based in Poland, their servers are only hosted in Cyprus while their payment processor is out of the UK. The GOG guys did provide a reason for the Cyprus hosting once, but I can't remember what it was right now (probably something as simple as cost).

I always use Paypal myself because it's safer, faster and I often have money stored there but I do have a MC too so I could give it a go and see what happens.

To clear few things up: GOG offices are based in Warsaw, Poland (as it's a home of our parent company CD Projekt), the GOG.COM company itself is registered in Cyprus (for business reasons), and this is where the transactions are registered. Our web servers are hosted in Canada, and our download servers are all around the world for optimum transfer speeds.
If you have problems with using your CC on gog.com you should contact your bank to clear things up. You should also be able to use PayPal without any problems.

Personally I recommend using Paypal for small transactions. Credit cards are nothing but a pain in the arse and are only really useful when buying pricey electronics and the like.

I think that sometimes the credit card companies see a few small transactions form the same site and think they are 'test' transactions intended to see if the card works. I've had my card stopped once after buying a few very cheap games from Steam and Gog on the same weekend.
