Gundato: Okey dokeys. Rather than continue to try to explain using comparisons and the like, let's just drop the cheap-shot:
Can you resell the stuff you buy at this very website? :p
avatar
ceemdee: Of course not. However all of the games released on this website can also be resold if you own the original physical disc. That is the concern some people have. That even if they can resell the physical disc too much material released via DLC could make worthless.
So far most DLC has just been extra stuff, but as Siannah said if stuff like full expansion packs are released via DLC then you might be required to purchase them if you wish to enjoy/understand a sequel to a game.
No one is saying that their rights are being stripped away, but it is still a legitimate concern given the greedy track record of many companies.
Even so, I purchase most of my game through digital distribution because I feel it is worth the risk (for now at least).

Then wait for the inevitable DLC packs that you can buy on disc. Problem solved. You can resell your disc. If you are okay with buying a copy of Second Sight that you can never resell because you could theoretically resell it if you had bought a physical copy instead, the same can apply here.
Physical media won't disappear until physical media actually disappears. We will always get GOTYEs for anything "worth playing". Why? Because so many people are terrified of the interweb that they want to repurchase things (or, like me, are really lazy and hate the install process :p).
The trailer is impresive. Even though I dindn't like ME1 (for some weird, somehow indescribable, reason regarding the story line), I'm sure I'll buy ME2 (when at 20€ probably).
Damn, that's a great trailer... must watch again.

Gundato: The point is, not being able to resell things is not something brand spanking new.

Not being able to resell things due to artificial restrictions backed by legal constructs is actually a fairly recent development. It's one of the more recent instances of copyright and associated laws being stretched far beyond the initial bargain in an effort to not simply make information and ideas behave like physical goods, but to restrict what can be done with information far more than what can be done with physical goods. It's one of the reasons I'm not surprised that less and less people are willing to buy into that legal construct.

Urb4nZ0mb13: This game (specifically the RPG elements) has been dumbed down for casuals to the point where I feel bad about installing the thing.

Did you enjoy the original because it wasn't that complex to begin with? It would be kinda hard to simplify the game even more and still market it as an RPG.

Well, that's exactly what Bioware did.

Point taken haha.
Funny thing about Mass Effect 2: it's already been leaked...for the XBOX 360 :D

The first rule about console publishing is we don't talk about console games being copied.
The second rule... a you get the idea.
How are companies like Activision supposed to demonize the PC market if people draw attention to cracked console games?

They should ask the man with 1/3rd of a mustache; he was an expert on the whole demonizing thing...

Yes, but I see he got ...chubbier.
They gave it 96% at IGN. I think everybody should consider buying it if they can afford to, even if it's only to encourage other developers to raise the bar.
To anybody who talks of using pirate copies, cmon guys I'm not exactly a saintly figure but please give credit where it's due, we all gain in the long run.

No way in hell am I pirating a 14 GB copy...Easier to buy the damn thing.
CDKeyHouse are selling the Digital Deluxe Edition for $35.99 which is €26 for use on the EA Download manager. As I bought NFS:Shift from them before I find that deal very hard to resist.

Um... just because something gets >90% doesn't make it instantly worth buying.
I've enjoyed many games that got 70-80% scores, and I'd much rather support those games which were big on ideas but rough around the edges.
Also, in the case of ME2, I wasn't that impressed by ME1 (enjoyed it, but in no rush to get the second one).
