Ordered a boxed CE online a few weeks ago. I love CE boxes, they're so shiny. Costs an arm and a leg, and I got a mail saying the CE release got delayed a week, but that's fine with me since I'm mostly broke right now.

PoSSeSSeDCoW: I personally see no problem with monetizing the used games market. These are sales that they don't make any money from. Why shouldn't they be able to get their hand in the pot on used games, especially when you don't need to buy the DLC anyways?

You buy a game and some DLCs for it. A half year later, you're selling that game. However, you're stuck with the DLCs - you can't use them, you can't sell them. The money you handed over for them, is gone for good without any option for you to get anything, then the time you actually played them.
Now how is it acceptable, that your allowed to buy and possess a game with the ability to resell it later on, but not so for the additional DLCs?

Then don't buy the DLC... simple solution. It's not like you can't finish the game without it.

and if the DLC is anything like the Dragon Age ones, you won't necessarily miss much.
(I admit Shale was my favourite party member, but if I'd never seen her, it wouldn't have mattered much.)

Point is, that a costumer who bought something is stuck with it even though he can't use it anymore. They lock me out of the used market just to get their hands in. Costumer rights? What's that again?
If that strikes you guys as fair, then by all means go a head and rent your DLCs from Richitello. It's only a matter of time until expansions getting called DLCs for monetizing purposes - but hey, it's not that you can't finish the game without them. :)

I'm just waiting for the crossover games, Mass Age and Dragon Effect.
The first will be about everyone ageing too fast! It's a race against time and arthritis to get to the bottom of the mystery!
The second will be a powerpoint presentation about how everythings better with dragons.

You make a game, sell a few copies of it. It turns out 50% of those copies have been resold 4 or 5 times. You don't see any of that money. How is that fair? Shouldn't game developers be able to get money from people buying games legally?

DLC's are always optional and are in no way required by the game. I see no issue with the free DLC given as an incentive to encourage people to buy the game, the only people who cant get that DLC are those that bought it second hand (The publisher didn't see that money) and pirates. As for the DLC you buy well if you like the game enough to buy all that DLC then surely you wont be selling it anytime soon?

It's perfectly fair that they don't get the money from used games. Should an author get money every time a used book is sold?
However it's also perfectly fair for them to create DLC that cannot be resold. We just have to hope that companies don't start to get too greedy and compromise the quality of the game (purposely remove stuff) in order to sell DLC.
