I left off Microsoft because they are as bad as Facebook with data mining. That leads me to believe you think using some form of DRM is the same as trying to get all of your data and sell it. It isn't. Sony and Valve jsut hurt the customer. Microsoft and Facebook wants your data to push ads on you. Also, my Steam page has nowhere near the information Facebook wants.

Reread my post, I said MY steam page and MY facebook page. you have chosen to give facebook a bunch of information that you didn't give steam, that's your choice, don't cry about it. You can put just as much info on steam, which I have done.

I was pointing out their shoddy business practices and how their marketing has managed to have people consider it to be okay, hence why I said they are better at hiding it.

these are all big companies, they aren't in it for you, they dont have the warm fuzzies for you, they're there to make profit, lots of profit. Neither is any better than the other.

Man, I feel for the Kickstarter backers, 9,000 people back him with 2.4 million to start his VR company, 15 months later he sells said company for 2 billion. I know KS isn't an "investment" but holy shit.

i pointed out list of information FB collects on me. Just because i shared it willingly is not important. I can go to deviantart and post my pictures, my cc info, my account details etc but it won't mean that deviantart collects more info on me than FB....

so what i share or not is not the issue here but what the company tries to collect on you.

Valve is better choice than FB as FB is more intrusive, demands more info from you, has wider goals than Valve has, has less respect for your privacy and many more reasons.

We'll have to agree to disagree. IMO You gave your info willingly, that makes it your fault if you don't like what it gets used for, not facebooks. Take some responsibility for your actions.

it is not about what we give out. it is what company collects. Valve does not collect as much info as FB. even if you share that info on your steam page valve is not using it.
if you write that you went to pizza hut on george st, sydney on your steam page.... that info is not going to be used by valve in anyway. they don't have the ability to capture that info anyway from your steam account.
FB tough? yes. it will.
what valve collects is not even remotely similar to what fb collects on you...
