maul_inc: Nice to see a store that is not squemish about controversial content.
avatar
Xaromir: What is squeamish about that? If it's best for the business,
then who should blame them? A store is a business not a fraternity party,
and if it may hurt sales or doesn't pull it's weight, having it in the shelves would be just plane stupid.
Apparently it didn't pull it's weight anymore.
But it's a good example how sensation can partially (or completely)
make up for lack of quality - that's what we call hype, and that's what made it sell,
and apparently it did so till now..

Just DL it from somewhere, it's abandoned ware now.
When I say squeemish, I'm talking about the fact that Manhunt 2 on Pc never was sold anywhere else than at the US D2D store because of it's adult content.
So if Gamersgate get it, then maybe I will finally have an opportunity to buy it.

But I would prefer to buy it from GOG...

Antimateria: Nothing to say here.. but I have always liked maul_incs profile picture.
Thank you. I would like to say that I made it myself, but that would make me a liar. :-)

Wraith: Navagon, by that definition, most games glorify death.
avatar
Navagon: No. Most games don't even come close to depicting death, never mind glorifying it. The enemies just go from being a threat to ragdoll physics mode. That's not death.

As I said about CoD, some games might glorify war, etc. But death? In the way that Manhunt does? I can't say I see that in every game in which things die. Far from it. Even games like Bulletstorm are so many degrees removed from reality that they're merely a bit tasteless.

Now don't get me wrong. I have loved a lot of very violent games over the years. I'm not being prudish or anything here. My problem with Manhunt lies purely with its intentions and its overall tone. If you don't have a problem with that then well, what do I care? I don't. By all means enjoy the game for what it is.
So it's not death, if someone gets shot multiple times with your assault rifle in a COD game, just drops to the ground and becomes a lifeless body? I don't see how Manhunt is different from other violent games... The only kind of games that don't have death in it are games like Sensible Soccer 2006...

tfishell: Postal 2?
avatar
TParis: Even though Postal 2 can be disgusting at times, the violence and the setting are so much over the top you cant really take it serious.
Yeah, but it's still pretty violent. I say let GoG decide if they want it or can get it up here eventually, then simply don't purchase it. I don't plan on buying it at any point, either. :)

In COD? No. It doesn't even concern itself with reality. If anything in terms of death it's striving for the realism of a very low budget action movie.

Cassidy: the soundtrack had a John Carpenter meets the Warriors vibe.
Oh man that sounds awesome. I'm a huge John Carpenter OST fan. If you haven't heard it, gotta check out the original "Assault on Prescient 13" theme or "The Thing - Humanity" music. Great stuff!

Still those who wish it won't come here are being no better than those we dislike who strive to allow one level of violence/etc in games sold in our country & ban others.

Well I'm not saying it shouldn't be on GOG. That was never my argument. After all, given some of the games on GOG, I don't think that it would be so easy to rule out the inclusion of that one. I merely just don't see any merit in it.

I didn't say I was talking about you, hence my phrasing as I did. :)

But still, even considering a game trash because of it's content is weird to me. It just doesn't seem to mesh with the whole games are all valid forms of expression thing.(dunno if I worded this right.)
