Elmofongo: Rotating the earth backwards to reverse time :P
I've read, since, that superman didn't make time go backward through some sort of bizarre momentum effect applied to the earth, but that he simply flew very fast (could have done it in a straight line too) and went back in time by going faster than light (some pseudo-einsteinian stuff), with the visual effect of earth rotating backwards.

That is, contrarily to what I had understood as a kid, he didn't make time go backwards by making the earth turn backwards, but the earth turned backwards because superman travelled back in time.

So there. For, hm, logic. Well, less devastating logic.

That said, yeah, superman is super ridiculously super all, and he super can super everything he super wants. Therefore the bad guys lose. The end.

Also, it is rumored that he depends on the sun for his super powers, which is not that much of a weakness appearently because he seems to function pretty well at night too if I'm not mistaken.

Superman is so powerful in one comic book series, he basically turned into a real god:

And even more fucked is that he is only the second most powerful character in the DC Universe.

I thought it's the other way around? When you go faster than light, the time for you slows down, but for the Earth it would go normal, so after you stop, you would be in future, not in the past...

It's not Superman, it's Superboy Prime, and he's a villain, as I understand it. Or not...

No, that's not it either.

nijuu: Odd question. Why did they choose to basically do a reboot of the movie after the last one?.
Because, apparently, they wanted to remake Superman/Superman 2 with a single movie.
As it turns out I WILL be going to see this at the cinema, my nephew wants to go see it so I figure I'll get to take him to a movie that'll be all new to him. So I'll see how much I'll enjoy it, I'll keep positive and remind myself that at the very least it shouldn't be a huge letdown like IM3 turned out to be.

I'm average for a superman fan but if there's lot of action might as well see it on big screen :)

That would be for when you speed up to almost reach the (unpassable) speed of light.

Some theorize that if you go beyond the speed of light, then you can travel back in time. Seems it also means (in both cases) that your mass becomes infinite or something. I'm a bit rustly on these things. Anyway :

Ah.

Makes no sense to me.

If you go near ftl speed, you go forward, but when you go faster, instead of going further forward, you go backwards? It makes no sense for me at all.

From Supermans perspective it may look like the earth stands still, but from the people's perspective, it would go as usual.

I don't think time travel backwards is possible, only forwards. What would explain lack of Observers.

I'm a law major, so you know.
Marketers for the newest Hollywood Superman movie, 'Man of Steel,' are heavily targeting Christians by offering church leaders free screenings of the film as well as sermon notes emphasizing its religious themes.
And suddenly, I lost all interest in watching this film. :\

#SCREWYOU! #Failywood!

We're all NOT raging, unedumacated bible-bashers!
Can't you just leave the crap out of ONE FUCKING FILM!

Superman has always been a Christ-like character. There's a little symbolism in Man of Steel, but it's nowhere near as bad as the shit in Superman Returns.
Apparently the cinemas here that were advertising Man of Steel in 2D are now unable to show the film in 2D and have been refunding bookings.

Fuck 'em. I'm downloading a copy from the net. If Warner Bros. want my money, they'll get it when the Bluray comes out.

Random question: does your theater show movies with subtitles, or do they dub with German?

My gf was seeing Dark Knight in Germany when she was on a trip last time.

It was dubbed. It was awful.
