I've had Origin for quite a while now and no issues with either the Mac or Windows clients. As someone else noted, it seems more lightweight and starts up faster for me than Steam does. It's very similar to Steam except it has less features. By all means go for it if they have something you want to play is what I'd recommend. That's what I did and no regrets.

Johnmourby: I was thinking about Origin, EA's online game store. I gave it a looksee out of curiously and saw Crysis 3 is on sale. For all it's faults the original Crysis has a warm place in my heart. I do use Steam and have only been burned once or twice by it and not badly. I do prefer GOG but not by much. While Steam is DRM it's DRM that mostly doesn't get in the way (For me at least).

At 50% of Crysis 3 is still £10, Not a great deal compared to what you get here or on Steam. Does anyone around here have past experience with Origin? Should I do it?
Only if you want to buy a game that's sold ONLY on Origin. It's a terrible mess.
Origin is fine. They have a few exclusives but beyond those don't really get great sales on the rest. So you'll only end up getting a few Origin games with most of your titles being on other platforms.
also note that origin cloud sync for your save files is a blessing specially for bioware games where you can import previous game saves, i was surprised that it restored my me2 save for me 3 , since i had changed os by the time i played me 3

The storefront leaves a lot to be desired, but the client itself is hardly 'a mess'. I've had Origin installed for quite some time now and have had no issues with it. I find it completely unobtrusive when playing Origin-required games.

Aside from the big titles im actually surprised how small their library is .Pretty ME, NFS, Fifa, DA,Sims and a small handful of others..and yeah.. BF series...(and Simcity)
I cracked and got Origin for the C&C collection. IT WAS ONLY TEN DOLLARS!!! *sobs* I was weak.

Hey, lassoing a wild wallet isn't easy. :(
I actually prefer it to Steam for basic use. It seems lighter compared to Steam and you can start it in Offline mode. The store part is a mess but as the deals are lacking I don't use it anyway.

The big difference where Steam wins is that after a Windows re-install, Steam keeps better track of it's already installed games. Sometimes you still need to verify the data and download parts of it, but for the most part it works. For Origin I cannot say the same. Luckily you don't re-install Windows so often and with Origin having a lot less games there is a lower chance of you having a ton of Origin games installed, like with Steam.
