I was thinking about Origin, EA's online game store. I gave it a looksee out of curiously and saw Crysis 3 is on sale. For all it's faults the original Crysis has a warm place in my heart. I do use Steam and have only been burned once or twice by it and not badly. I do prefer GOG but not by much. While Steam is DRM it's DRM that mostly doesn't get in the way (For me at least).

At 50% of Crysis 3 is still £10, Not a great deal compared to what you get here or on Steam. Does anyone around here have past experience with Origin? Should I do it?

Hi, Origin is just like Steam, a client to manage and operate your games library. No problem to report from my experience with it.

I have an Origin account, but I barely use it because all the games I have on it are sequels to games I haven't finished yet. I think Origin gets a lot of shit somewhat undeservedly. It can't hurt to make an account; I never get emails from EA or anything.

while I never used Origin (outside of the classic game maker) I have found it funny that even Steam "fans"* don't like Origin.

*by "fans" I mean those that are like "you wanna not use Steam, there is an easy way, use it."

i rage quit origin after mass effect 3 , it might have improved a lot since then but ya just as the same as steam , they even added cloud saves for the games, hurts nothing to make one

Origin also has the Original Battlefield 1942 for free.

I've never had any negative experiences with Origin. Origin doesn't get in the way of gaming unless you aren't connected to the internet. I believe Steam is superior to Origin for many reasons but Origin doesn't have any negative characteristics that Steam doesn't have. Origin is also necessary if you want to play Mass Effect 3(an excellent game).

Origin and Steam are identical in benefits and faults. If you can accept one you can accept the other, and the same for the opposite.

I have used Origin and Steam. It's already been mentioned, if you can handle Steam, Origin shouldn't be an issue. Origin actually runs games better than Steam from my experience, though both scan your processes and hard drives.

I have an EA account since Dragon Age, which was Bioware back then but got eaten by EA and migrated to their system. No torubles with it so far. Getting the C&C collection in a few days for 4.99 USD (sale on Gamersgate, I think) as first real "EA Origin"[1] games.

[1]Not to be confused with Origin Systems.

I have both. Origin seems and feels to be lighter (i have much fewer games on it though). Up dates are a pain - you need to install new client and reenter your formerly saved details (everytime!!)
Having said that, EA has bunch of games not on Steam, so if you really want that game, go ahead and install it :)

Unlike Steam, you CAN start Origin in offline mode, at least last time I checked you could.

Do it. =P ... On a more serious note, like others have already said it ain't much better or worse than Steam.

Now UPlay on the other hand I'd never touch. A quickie one-time online check on startup isn't too bad, but always online requirements is something I will never abide by, and that's why I haven't bothered with any Ubi games that come with that shite.

I meant theres an option to prevent origin from doing that in the client, but also yes! heheh
