Shalgroth: Umm.. I can't remember what it was called.. May have been Mana Tap?

It is Duels of the Planeswalkers, not to be confused with the XBLA game of the same name.

TheCheese33: You're telling me you can grief in a trading card game? That would be awesome!

It can even be a viable tournament strategy. If your deck annoys your opponent into quitting, you win :)

TheCheese33: I've also heard there are websites where you can print out cards. Load your deck with twenty of the most powerful and such.

There isn't even any need to print out cards, other than they look better than handwritten ones. As long as the people you play with are ok with using proxies, and you can't tell them apart by looking at the backs.
I still play, though it has been a while. Just casually, mostly preconstructed decks. Current favourite is the green/black deck from Ravnica. Which is a bit weird considering I typically prefer to play red.
I played from around Mirage/5th to Urza's Destiny, then I pretty much stopped after I moved out of the area where my friends were playing. I played in high school, but it was hard since the school banned it, considering it a form of gambling (even tho nobody ever bet anything).
I very briefly tried the online version during the Kamigawa series after an employee kept trying to get me to play, but really couldn't get back into it again.
Stared playing during Ice age and kept playing competitively till the end of the of the Invasion block.
Came back to it few years later when Kamigawa came out when my little brother started playing.
Was able to win one last tournament before the GF forced me into retirement...
Spectromancer anyone?

fix-cz: Spectromancer anyone?

Oh wow... That's sort of on the right track, the Microprose game was just called Magic: The Gathering, Duels of the Planeswalkers seems to be an update of that game. Which includes the patch ManaLink (what I referred to as Mana Tap *facepalm*).

No one in my community ever got into card games past middle school so after that I have had practically no experience in collecting or playing collectible card games.
But, those days were good times... good times...
Wow...I just got to thinking about it and remembered I had the PC game long ago. Not the really old one which was laid out like an adventure, but the Encyclopedia.

Well, I was curious, and I found the CD, tucked right into all my jewel case games on the shelf. Was definately an interesting "game". It had an online component, but was completely on the honor system. There was no restrictions in what you could or couldn't do. It was as if you were sitting down with another player in person.
If you can find it and you like Magic, you might wanna check it out. I used it to build and test decks, but it doesn't have a single player component to it at all.

prakaa: To be honest I dont' like core sets, but wow, that's a lot of cards!

Shalgroth: I spent a LOT of money on Magic cards... 4th edition wasn't the only edition I sunk money into, but for some reason it was the only one I was compelled to try and complete. (Yeah, that went well, ha!)
As for the old MTG videogame by Microprose, if we are talking about the one where you explore a world map and challenge creatures/wizards/whatever to card duels, there's a patch out there that slows the gamespeed down to work on modern computers...

Thanks a lot!
I'll try it out tonight

Sielle: I thought the game was fun, I didn't really care for the "collection" aspect of it though. Too often (not always, but often) it came down to who ever was willing to spend more money usually won. Currently the only card game I play is Munchkin. :)

MUCHKIN IS AWESOME!!!
I love that game
Yeh I try not to spend too much money, but on the plus side, it limits ridiculous decks...

I'll pay that comment for some of the unblanaced sets *cough* Mirrodin *cough*, but otherwise the trading aspect is meant to balance it out. All in all i've spent about $100 and it's given me lots of enjoyment and considerigng that's a price of a computer game over here that's pretty good

Thanks, but the patch applies only to Shandalar (a part of Duel of the Planeswalkers)...

I got my version of duels of the planeswalker and shandalar running perfectly, if anyone wants to get that game running on a modern system come talk to me in IRC.
I made a Goblin thermed deck, but haven't played much since the guys who played left the hobby store. ..that is why I play Yu-Gi-Oh!, except I profit off of the cards I get from sneak peaks.
