Cliftor: Looks like you were a victim of the FUD factory. Have you actually tried Vista? I hate Microsoft's guts, but I still use windows since I'm realistic about gaming. And Vista is by far the best Windows version imo.
It is NOT a must-upgrade, but it is the best. Ironically, one of it's best features is one of it's most reviled: User Account Control. Not the same thing as sudo, but it's the closest to the way permissions SHOULD have been controlled this whole time. Aero is cute, but what's nicest about it is its documented and simple API, making eye-candy extensions simple and light to make. The prefetching in this version is vastly improved over XP, and it seems to handle resources more intelligently in general. I can be watching an HD movie, playing music and defragging my harddrive all at once with no hiccups.
Honestly, businesses aren't upgrading for their own good reasons. Vista just didn't have enough for them to offset it's cost. But for the power user, it's the Windows of choice imo. I'm sorry to see FUDs gone so far.
And Windows 7 isn't going to be the savior everyone wants. It's going to be more like Windows 6.1
Finally, someone on the internet with an actual working brain. Rare indeed.
