Worthplaying is saying Mafia II will only support DirectX 10 supported video cards. This is so annoying. I hope they would do something about it because a lot people still using Windows XP. Anyway first GTA IV PC's system reqs. and now this. Thank you 2K Games, We love you.

Sad news if it's finally true, I really enjoyed the first one ( I cross fingers to see it soon in GOG :D)
That's why I enjoy games from GOG. I can play them in minutes without headaches!!

Dumb move. It's far too early to force out DirectX10-only titles. They're cutting off a lot of potential buyers that way, IMO.

Well it was to be expected, wasn't it? First game in a row, there will be more and more of them and I'm not really complaining - I'd start babbling about 'technological advance' and that kind of crap, about which we all know is not true (since DX 10 could be on XP, apparently), on the other hand, Microsoft's strategy is not fault of gaming companies and if they wish to use technology to it's fullest... There's no way to overcome this
Edit: Coelocanth: nah, when it'll come out? Year, two from now? I don't think it's too early. Heh, Halo 2 was too early :D

I dunno... I tend to be unsympathetic towards the less fortunate. I'm running Vista 64-bit, suckas!!
Also you can complain all you want about how they're dumb to alienate all their potential consumers, but it's really a matter of cost benefit. Is it worth the time, effort, and money to ensure compatibility over multiple platforms? Apparently they figured it wasn't. If companies are willing to take the risk, they'll have to live with the consequences.
Either way, all you luddites should get a real job and upgrade your punch card computers.

Pretty funny considering many businesses in the industry are refusing to migrate to Vista, Microsoft has extended the shelf life of XP more than once since the launch of Vista, and Windows 7 is just around the corner. Seeing as Vista is widely considered the equivalent of Windows ME (i.e. a rather large failure), I'd say us 'luddites' are rather just more discerning and don't just jump on the 'next best thing'.

Looks like you were a victim of the FUD factory. Have you actually tried Vista? I hate Microsoft's guts, but I still use windows since I'm realistic about gaming. And Vista is by far the best Windows version imo.
It is NOT a must-upgrade, but it is the best. Ironically, one of it's best features is one of it's most reviled: User Account Control. Not the same thing as sudo, but it's the closest to the way permissions SHOULD have been controlled this whole time. Aero is cute, but what's nicest about it is its documented and simple API, making eye-candy extensions simple and light to make. The prefetching in this version is vastly improved over XP, and it seems to handle resources more intelligently in general. I can be watching an HD movie, playing music and defragging my harddrive all at once with no hiccups.
Honestly, businesses aren't upgrading for their own good reasons. Vista just didn't have enough for them to offset it's cost. But for the power user, it's the Windows of choice imo. I'm sorry to see FUDs gone so far.
And Windows 7 isn't going to be the savior everyone wants. It's going to be more like Windows 6.1

Anyway, DX10 only would be a mistake. As far as I've gathered, Vista as minimum (For DX10) have not worked all that brilliantly with the still significant XP base.

Cliftor, you misunderstand me. It's nothing to do with FUD. I personally don't have anything against Vista, it's just that I've found no reason to upgrade to it yet (no, DirectX10 isn't enough of a reason). XP and Linux work fine for me, so why shell out more money for an OS I don't need? Many businesses feel the same. There just aren't enough improvements in Vista to justify the cost of switching.
The widely held view that Vista is a failure is partly from people buying into the FUD, but it's also due to the number of people choosing to adopt Vista being lower than anticipated.
Again, I think it's likely a mistake to release a game that supports only DX10 when there are so many potential customers out there that haven't (and probably won't have) migrated to Vista. Maybe by the time the game is released it will be a non-issue. Maybe not.
