Would be amazing if it was coming to GOG as well. I've loved Mafia since it came out, the story is top notch and the missions are really good. Not to say anything bout the city, which tops the GTA ones with ease (ok, not sure about GTA 4's, but, they're a generation apart)
Also, I seem to remember the special edition of the game coming with a city map, that would be a nice extra like GOG likes to offer ;)
It used to be on GamersGate, seems it's been pulled now. Hope that's nothing to do with it's appearance on Steam as I was waiting for a price drop on GamersGate to get it =(
Mafia is easily one of the best games I've played, 4 times in fact. Story is uber stellar.
I was about to say Gamersgate too. Damned, it's been pulled?? I was hoping for the price to drop as well to get it since I want the digital copy in addition to my boxed CDs.
Wow, Steam's Mafia appears and GG's Mafia disappears? This sucks, I hate Steam more and more!

Mafia was a great game, but I just hated the driving with a passion.
Don't get me wrong, it was great to have period vehicles and to actually have damage mean something. But too many times I would have to struggle to get out of a tunnel because I was driving a piece of crap.
And the "unlock" system for the cars was annoying. Was fun to learn skills over time, but it just got annoying to have to wait to find a car that I can actually steal before I can drive away (and get stuck in a tunnel :p).
But the story and gunplay was superb.

I loved the driving for some reason. Especially in manual gear.
Any info on price and release date?
I loved the driving, after the first 1-2 missions, when the cars got a little faster. And I loved the way you could make a nice collection of cars in the garage.
I never got stuck in a tunnel though... i don't remember there BEING any tunnels!
Only thing that bugged me on the PC version was that your character lowered his pistol after a few seconds without shooting, and then pressing fire raised the gun - so if you walked around the corner and met a bad guy you had to press fire TWICE to kill him. And I kept forgetting and dying after pressing fire once.

The only time I had a problem with the driving was with in the first mission where they give you some PoS that can barely move and a baseball bat. Luckily there's a decent car parked in the garage and it's all uphill from there.

Agreed. My hopes for Mafia 2 are pretty astronomical because of this.

There was one really short tunnel I remember not too far from the restaurant, had a division between it that I could imagine getting stuck on

There are 2 if I remember right. I remember myself trying to overtake the traffic inside and crashed. But no getting stuck in there so far, I maul my way through normally.
Overtaking in a one lane tunnel? Not the best tactic

Yeah me too. My hopes are astronomical too.
Mafia's music is stellar too. It's on my top gaming music list.

Thats why you evade them, switch cars then drive like a normal person
And Mafia 2 will use Steamworks as a DRM. I hope they will make deal and if you pre purchase Mafia 2 you will get Mafia. Can't wait for this game I will pre-purchase from Steam when it is available.
I will wait for the GOG version of Mafia ( without the DRM crap )
