The reviews for this are amusing. Pretty much everything they knock the game for is the same as in the original but no one ever knocked that game for it, that I know of. Yes, it is linear, story-focused and more realistic than most games... those can be good things, as they were in the original. Some reviews are even knocking it for having less freedom than the original, which is a completely false statement.
I feel bad for 2K Czech right now.

Played the demo, gotta be honest, I love it. I love the freedom, and the outfits and car handling. The gunplay felt a little slippery and the aiming sensitivity was a little off but it is a buy for me. Just wish I had some money xD
They complained that the original wasn't GTA3, sounds like they're complaining that the sequel isn't GTA4

Did they? I know the console version rated lower, but I thought that was all technical stuff. Metacritic shows all the PC reviews were positive except one, and that one's complaint was the save system which indeed was terrible.
Nearly every complaint I saw about 1 (not always in reviews) was that it wasn't fast or fun enough, in other words not GTA3

Either they have not played the original Mafia or they're complete ignorants.
Mafia was NEVER meant to play like GTA... What part of story-driven do they not understand.
Reading only the summaries on metacritic, it seems like the complaint isn't exactly about having scripted story-based missions - it's that those missions are repetitive and don't allow you enough freedom in how you approach them. (eg: a cover based corridor crawl).
No idea if that's correct, but it seems to be the main issue.

The demo was like that somewhat, it was awesome going through the city, but the actual mission was basically like that. Hmmm. I loved the first though, so i don't know.

It's a linear game though, what linear games do that? Call of Duty, Bioshock, Halo, Splinter Cell, whatever... linear games do not give you choice as to how to accomplish things, that is why they are linear games. They do not instantly get knocked in reviews for that, in my experience. Mafia did not get knocked for it and was the same.
That tells me the fact Mafia 2's linear gameplay takes place in an open world, the same as the first game, is making reviewers demand it play like an open world game, which it is not.

Mafia 1 was hard?
You're not talking about the race are you? You just have to take it easy when cornering

no.
imma talking about whole game
Race was easy cause i played game patched and choose an easy mode.
Remember the hotel level. at the end you end up on the roof and have to get to the church.
dear god took me few days to just get to new save point. everything had to work like a clockwork.
first snipe the police on the right. in order.
proceed further. after few seconds (i actually was counting) hide. abuse scripted AI by timing moving forward and hiding.
take out a cop
then another
till you reach the church. which was easy just five reloads or something.
M1 was incredibly hard for me. other 'memorable' levels included the level where you chase the guy and end up in a port.
there were two snipers out there who i had to take out first. man. pixel aiming that was~!
I just replayed Mafia over the last couple weeks and didn't think it was that hard... the key is moving slowly while crouched and paying attention.
Of course I think most games today are too easy, so compared to them I guess Mafia is hard in a sense.
Eurogamer just gave it a 4 our of 10 in a review that is truly laughable. I kind of like Eurogamer at times, they seem like more game journalists than most sites, but that review is terrible. I'm not even sure the actual problems they have, they list a ton of small things and then complain mob stories all suck and are juvenile, then give it a 4. They even mention Rockstar games in the very beginning.
Terrible review.
And of course their comment section is filled with words about canceled pre-orders from idiot review slaves.
Let them be. Every sane person in this world knows that GTA is a piece of shit when compared to Mafia.
