Are there any games on GOG.com that are compatible with Macs or should I stop looking?

Yes and no. I believe theres a thread showing which works and what don't. And I think you need WINE

WINE is a program designed for Mac and Linux to run non Mac programs on a mac or Linux PC... at least thats as far as I know

You might check the Crossover database, often users will list successes with GoG games there. Crossover is essentially the commercial ARM of Wine.
