Do any of these games work on Mac, or are they all pc-only?

It's fine, I couldn't see the humor in the posts until I read it a few times. From my position, it's quite hard to read humor until you actually know the people first.
Anyway... so if I want to run any games on my macbook instead of my Windows desktop, I'll have to use DOSBox or something?

Seeing as you've got a PC then you just install on that then copy the necessary files over and use the tools linked to.

Well this is why i said "modern" Macs :-). Macs from 1984-2000 (or around the year Mac OS X was announced) aren't the same as Mac OS X-based Macs :-P. The one button mouse used to be truth at the past, but we're a decade, a whole architecture and a whole OS past it.

The Magic Mouse has this "press more than a button at the same time" issue, which makes it hard for some tasks (playing FPS games with the right click as jump or using Blender are two things i disliked it for) but it is better for other tasks (i find browsing source code or the web much easier).

I'm not saying that Macs do not come with one-button mice (even Magic Mouse that comes with modern iMacs is preconfigured as a one-button-only mouse, despite the hardware being able for more), i'm saying that Macs can do more (and most power Mac users -not PowerMac users :-P- have configured their mouse for it - or even have a second mouse for gaming, like i do).

Microsoft makes nice mice. :-)

Since this question does seem to pop up a lot, why don't we assemble a list here of games from GOG that are working on the Mac?

Probably none of us have bought them all, but together we can probably but together a pretty comprehensive list.

I just thought I'd try to start something positive for Mac gamers on GOG. If everyone posts the GOG games they are running on they're Mac then we can come here and check before buying and then buy with confidence. If we demonstrate that the majority of games are Mac compatible in some way maybe some official support will emerge.

No need to use Boxer.

I've already provided lists of GOG DOS and SCUMMVM games. As for Wine, there are already threads about that. But I don't think that any are remotely active anymore.

Boxer is just a personal preference. Just streamlines the set up.

I am also on a Mac and the idea was to run old PC Games on my MacBook C2D 1.83GHz, 2GB Ram. Maybe due to my dated GMA950 chipset others with dedicated GFX cards will have less problems with the graphics.

All the PC games I have tested run fine in Bootcamp with XP SP3!!!

The Threshold for this MacBook seems to be Half Life 2 EP1, which it can run pretty decently with DirectC9.0c.

I will rework this list when I get a new MB Pro with Lion this Summer.

GOG games (or versions as stated) that work under CrossOver / Wine on a GMA 950

- Abe`s Exodus (Steam Version) - perfect

- Abe`s Oddysee (Steam version) - perfect

- Beneath a Steal Sky - perfect also with VSCUMM!

- BLOOD (One Unit Whole) - Runs Fairly BAD with just CXG.

testing now with DosBox/ Boxer - so far good results
but got probs with sound config. Solved by setting to Soundblaster PRO (new), Address: x220, IRQ: 7

- BLOOD 2 (The Chosen + Expansion) - No, only Software Renderer which is quite useless.

- Outcast - near perfect. Work great in Full Screen and Virtual Desktop
BUT - you have to set the Key Layout by editing the control.ini file within the Outcast Bottle. Game crashes when trying to do it from the Game GUI. And upon quitting, the game will crash too.

- Pain Killer Black Edition - perfect

- Panzer Elite SE - Software render Mode only

- Sanitarium - You have to choose RUN COMMAND and select Sntrm.exe from the Sanitarium folder, instead of the CXG Launcher. It seems to run perfectly in Full Screen and Windowed.

- Serious Sam - Second Enounter (Steam) - Pending

- Deus Ex (original disc version and Steam version) - perfect

- Half Life (original disc version and Steam version) - slight probs with sound engine causing video stutter. I guess closely related to my GMA950. besided that perfect.

- Rune (Human Head / G.O.D.) disc version. Perfect. Just make sure you are using Emulated Desktop and the OpenGL Render. Run(e)s like a dream in 1200x768.

GOG Games (or versions) NOT working in CrossOver on a GMA 950:

- BLOOD 2 (The Chosen + Expansion) - works only with the software
renderer which is completely ugly, so ... no from me.

- BloodRayne - Not on a Mac with GMA950 gfx. However if you have BootCamp look for the free program Analyzer3D.exe and check the T&L boxes.
After this in runs like dream in 1024x768.

- Chaser (GamersGate) - black screen

- Devine Devinity - smeared graphics and crashes

- Enclave (black Screen)

- Serious Sam - First Enounter (Steam) - totally f+++ed up Z-Polygon order and Transparency withe the OpenGL Renderer, and I cannot get the D3D renderer to work. MAYBE related to my GMA950. But it works perfect in Bootcamp!

- The Longest Journey - April 3D Model is black or transparent, this is also reported on WineHQ. So guess no easy solution to this.

- Syberia I - no luck with CXG. WineHQ say it´s GOLD on a Win98 Bottle
but since the GOG Version is patched to work with WinXP/Vista it´s of no use.
Also if Virtual Desktop is recommended the game quits after the Microid logo

Have you tried adjusting Wine's screen options? I end up running everything windowed and in a virtual desktop to avoid crashes and such.

Instead of using this thread to create your list, why not use the GOGMix feature to create a list of Mac functional games and include a brief description of what is required to run them in the comments. Pretty much any game on GOG which uses either SCUMMVM or DOSBox will work fine in the requisite emulator ports on the Mac. Some titles are requisite must-buys, like MoO/MoO 2, and HOMM2. Also, some games available on GOG have open-source engine ports which you can use with the data files from the GOG installers. Speaking of which, I sure hope that Kevin Bentley finishes up work soon on the fabled Descent 3 1.5 patch - it promises, among other things, full OS X compatibility, as well as OS X/Linux/Windows cross-platform network play. D3 is one of the few games I have which just refuses to work well with CrossOver.

I'm still kinda stuck with Fallout 2. I was able to get around the sluggish mouse control issue by tinkering with the config file for sfall, increasing the mouse sensitivity to something like 300%, but it still didn't resolve the issue with sluggish gameplay. I guess I can at least take some cold comfort in the fact that Linux users have the same problems with F2 in WINE.
And speaking of which, I'm hoping that someone will try to figure out how to get at the installers, or even play CXG-friendly games in WineBottler - if someone does, then it'll be big news as not everyone is able to afford CrossOver Games (even though it has been featured at a deep discount in several Mac bundles over the past year). I'm rather loathe to try it myself as the last time I tried it, it apparently nuked my whole CXG setup.
A good rule of thumb is that the GMA950 apparently doesn't play very well with DirectX 9.0c, even though on paper it should. (According to Intel's specs, it supposedly supports Hardware T&L...) So any really 3D graphics-intensive game wouldn't work, or at least work well, though there are some exceptions like DN: Manhattan Project, Sacrifice (works beautifully on a GMA950 MacBook in CXG 9.1, btw), and Unreal Tournament.
I think common sense pretty much works here. Graphically intense games like Painkiller clearly wouldn't be a good idea for a MacBook; sure, you might be able to get them to run, but they wouldn't run well enough to make it worthwhile. Of course it is kind of annoying that you'd get better performance out of BootCamp, given Apple's historically abominable driver support.
