Possibly the spring mechanism on a toaster to make it pop up once toast is done, but then again that isn't reversible.

Thinking on the lines of some sort of locking door mechanism as things like ovens, washers & dryers and fridge doors can be reversed.

Out of those washers and dryers have catches that lock to stop kids putting hands in when it is on where oven doors don't usually

Catch on a fridge / freezer handle door to keep it shut with air tight seal, little trigger type thing behind the handle you pull with finger to unlock and when let go the spring returns it to its normal position.

It's clearly part of a mechanism for a MacGuffin of some sort. :p

No that's a trigger mechanism of a custom build machine by Lugum (that is trying to sell to bosch) that wakes you up, makes you scrambled eggs breakfast, gives you a shower and then puts the fresly ironed shirt on you!

For the serious part, I have no idea, it's some sort of a trigger mechanism but have no clue on which of the appliances to put ...
