Yes. Free as in speech, not as in beer. Releasing the game data would essentially be releasing the game for free.
On a side note, the HIGB site was updated after I posted it: Aquaria, Gish, and Penumbra Overture will also be going open source.

Further down the page it states "We have included enough of the game data to run the demo version", which makes it sound like it isn't actually all the game assets, just a taste. Confusing. :/

Just downloaded it and compared it with the retail copy, and so far the complete gamedata seems to be there. Will try to compile it later on ;)

More interested in Penumbra open sauce.

Well, among the 121,823 generous donators, there are certainly more than a few devs...
Still, it's a very good sign for the future of Lugaru.
