Have you ever come across some ludicrously overpriced deal at a digital distribution platform for video games? I recently saw at Gamersgate the price of "Sanctum Official Soundtrack" and its price is $1.25 (with 75 percent discount for a limited time; its normal price is $4.99). I mean, come on, even its $1.25 price this looks expensive when you know that it is priced only $0.50 at Bandcamp! I wonder how many people have bought the soundtrack from Gamersgate at the $4.99 price. It's 10 times more expensive!!

Simple. Buy at Bandcamp instead and let the market solve this extremely minor inefficiency. The additional cost for GamersGate to setup a site can be neglected. But no, you have to complain about it first. It is obligatory.

Are they? Just curious.
If I had Russian prices on Steam, I'd buy everything day 1.

Skyrim with some 100h of gameplay does justice ti it's price, but some shooter with <10h of gameplay going for the same parice does not.

Hard to find the sweet spot on this, constant sales make things a lot better fortunately.
The soundtrack is included in the Collection edition (only 5.5 USD / 4 GBP!), so if you buy that version you don't have to buy the soundtrack separately.

Minor inefficiency"?? "The additional cost for GamersGate to setup a site can be neglected"??
And I have to complain it first?? It is obligatory?? Sorry, but I do not get what you are saying.
Not even just sales. Regular prices for The Last Remnant is $50 on Steam, $15 retail (which activates on Steam anyway).
Steam also sells the soundtrack at $4.99 price.

Sorry I didn't want it to sound like I needed to let off steam in your thread. Probably I put too much emphasis in my post.

The thing is this: You point out that a product is currently 2.5 times more expensive in one shop and normally even 10 times more expensive than in another shop. You seem to be actually upset about the expensive shop. And this is quite useless. We cannot change the prices of GamersGate. One would have to tell them about it. Of course it is nice that you inform us about the cheaper alternative. I am sure in the end almost everybody will buy there and nobody on GamersGate. The only real loss GamersGate will have, is hosting another page on their site, a cost that is almost negligable. What I want to say is that as long as there is at least one shop out there with a good price it really doesn't matter much if there is another shop who made a mistake and offers overpriced products. The discussion about it is not really worth the time.

Now I think you just wanted to inform us and did not just useless complaining. So thank you! :)

True. I've spared nice money from buying on retail and activating on Steam, instead of buying it directly from there.

This isn't a rare occurrence unless you're in the US. Last Remnant on the PC has been 10 euros here in Germany for forever and a day, and it's still three times that on Steam.

Modern Warfare 3 is 35 euros in stores, 60 euros on Steam. Mass Effect 3 is 55 euros on Origin, retail has it for 45-50 euros. Shogun 2 is 40 euros on Steam, 15-25 euros in retail. GOG is the only site I've seen with many prices comparable to the current retail prices, and even that is not always the case.

For triple-A titles, retail is often cheaper in Europe for no other reason that the major publishers are loathe to drop prices in distribution channels that they have direct control over unless they absolutely have to.

On the other hand, market forces have a much greater effect in retail and publishers have less influence on pricing, so prices come down a lot more quickly. I picked up Skyrim on day one for 43 euros in Media Markt while Steam was flogging it for 50 euros.

(I should mention at this point that it works in the other direction for indie titles here in Germany - indie titles are generally more expensive at retail. Terraria, for example, is going for 20 euros, the Binding of Isaac for 15 euros, although the Unholy Edition of BoI is awesome *Puts on Sacrificial from the OST*)

That's all Square Enix's fault. THEY refuse to sell the game for anything lower than that.
In Australia, games at full price are usually between $80 - $100. So, as you could imagine, deals for those games are not particularly good; ie. 50% off of a $100 game still ends up as $50.
