StingingVelvet: People have been saying that since the game came out but I never had crashes and have always used nVidia hardware. Probably a driver conflict of some sort.
So because it's not happening to you it's not happening to anyone? It's a recognised issue and one that I've been hit with too. Like I said. I don't know if it's been resolved or not. But without further testing I certainly wouldn't proclaim the game to 'work perfectly on modern systems'.

People are always so quick to make this snarky little statement.

Every PC game ever made has issues on some systems. It's just a fact of the platform. When you say "crashing issues on nVidia hardware" it makes it sound like a consistent issue, which it is not.

Probably because you seem to have a tendency to declare that there are no problems just because you're not having them. It's something I've noticed before too. There are many games I acknowledge have problems despite not personally experiencing them. That's something that helps me avoid getting snarly comments. :P

As you've already admitted, it's not a localised problem. For one or two to luck out due to a weird hardware combination is one thing. But quite a number of people have been hit with it. It could be due to a specific series or even my particular model. But the problem is there regardless.

This isn't even an OS incompatibility issue either as this was on XP too. The only thing I had changed was the graphics card at that point. So there's nothing else it could have been.
Hello loyal gog.com citizens,

What game let you dream of the stars?

Super punch out oder Star Craft yippiii. But i think its Starlancer, Privateer or Freelancer.

What game made you go to the underworld?

Oh Hm Ultima Underworld 1: Stygian Abyss and Underworld 2: The Labyrinth of Worlds. jipppiii. And a certain unimportant game named Diablo. So Origin games are coming to gog. What a shame, i have every game Origin did release already.

Have a nice day,

your little kosmo-speznaz

Well I'm not going to fight about it. We just disagree on what a significant issue is I guess.

If you can't agree that a large number of people not being able to run the game on current hardware is a significant issue then there's not really anywhere else for this to go.

What is a "large number of people?" You have no idea how many people suffered crashing issues. Internet forums are mostly used by people with problems, so a 10 page thread about an issue doesn't actually mean any more than 100 people had the problem.

You don't know any more than I do how widespread the issue was/is. Steam are selling the game and have certainly never pulled it because of significant issues getting it running. GOG certainly sells games some people have issues with. My original comment was simply that it would be an easy game to sell on GOG right away and nothing you have said changes my mind.

Steam didn't pull a game that didn't work for anyone at all for many a month. So I don't see what your point is there. They sell Jedi Knight and how many people do you think have got that working out of those who bought it? Certainly nobody without heavy a lot of tweaking. Clearly Steam are not fussed.

As for GOG, yes, considering the fact that they're selling Interstate 76, Blood 2 among others I can see how it won't be a problem for them to add KOTOR to the pile of games that don't quite meet their 'classics fully working on modern systems' claim.

I can see how it wouldn't be a problem for them. That's true enough. But I hardly consider that a good thing. It will just be another step away from the standards GOG originally set for itself.
I played KOTOR on three different systems and don't recall having real crashing issues. I DO recall it having some sound issues with my SB Audigy, though, but that's it. I also never heard about frequent crashes by others.
Jumping on the Lucasarts speculation based on the titles, what game made us visit the underworld? I can think of at least 3-4 Lucasarts games that fit that bill. And all from a different series.
Grim Fandango's the obvious one. Not sure about any others.

CalamityRanger: If GOG *does* get LucasArts I really hope that they can be the first place to digitally sell KotOR2. <33333333333333

Smannesman: Which is from Obsidian Entertainment, not LucasArts.
So they'd still need to work out a deal with Obsidian as well.
Obsidian was just the developer, just like BioWare was the developer of KotOR 1. LucasArts is still the publisher and rights holder of both games and the only people that GOG would need to make a deal with.
What game made you go to the underworld?

The back ground the hint is written on looks like the cover art for The Dig. I know that's clutching at straws :P

But there's no denying the Outlaws hint the other day.

At the end of it all really, I just want to see Grim Fandango on gog.com :)

The background is Ultimia underworld, it is a zoom in of the guy on the front of the box holding a torch.
