StingingVelvet: What is a "large number of people?" You have no idea how many people suffered crashing issues. Internet forums are mostly used by people with problems, so a 10 page thread about an issue doesn't actually mean any more than 100 people had the problem.
You don't know any more than I do how widespread the issue was/is. Steam are selling the game and have certainly never pulled it because of significant issues getting it running. GOG certainly sells games some people have issues with. My original comment was simply that it would be an easy game to sell on GOG right away and nothing you have said changes my mind.
Steam didn't pull a game that didn't work for anyone at all for many a month. So I don't see what your point is there. They sell Jedi Knight and how many people do you think have got that working out of those who bought it? Certainly nobody without heavy a lot of tweaking. Clearly Steam are not fussed.
As for GOG, yes, considering the fact that they're selling Interstate 76, Blood 2 among others I can see how it won't be a problem for them to add KOTOR to the pile of games that don't quite meet their 'classics fully working on modern systems' claim.
I can see how it wouldn't be a problem for them. That's true enough. But I hardly consider that a good thing. It will just be another step away from the standards GOG originally set for itself.
