Delixe: Big dissapointment. KOTOR now on digital download sites like D2D.

Debatable. I want a chance to try KOtOR but don't feel like dishing out the $90 amazon wants.
Edit: Just checked and Steam has it up. Didn't think it would be up until Monday.

"This product is only available for purchase in the United States and Canada.". Why am I not surprised? I hope they get it to more decent services also...
Edit: Now on Steam for reasonable 8,99 euros.

Eh. It's only for $9.99 which I think is a good deal, but it needs to be on GOG before I buy it.

It's also available on the UK D2D storefront. You can get it from there...7,95£ (9,10€)

You can buy it as a part of Star Wars Best of PC. That version is DRM-free too. That compilation seems like much better value to me.

Retort: You misunderstand the splendor that is KOTOR, meatbag.

On the contrary I adore KOTOR and I have had the Best of PC version for years. I will probably pick up the Steam version eventually for convenience. The reason I said it was a dissapointment is its hardly anything earth shattering.
LucasArts is announcing it's 85th game this week.
KOTOR is great and I will probably pick it up either now or when there's a deal on Steam or something for it. But I was expecting much, much more from this announcement.
Would KOTOR be fun for someone who doesn't really care for the Star Wars universe? Or is this a game that can only be enjoyed by those who liked the movies (to be honest, the movies, especially the last 3, don't really impress me).
To clarify, I wouldn't mind playing a sci-fi RPG and wonder if I'll get any enjoyment from KOTOR.

Well, we all hated the prequel trilogies. (If you liked it, there's something wrong with you or you're paid by George Lucas) But I think that if you're not into Star Wars lore, just play it through as a great RPG and you'll enjoy it.
Well, we all hated the prequel trilogies.
I guess that's true. I've just remembered being dragged to a midnight showing of Episode 1 and once it finished, my Star Wars loving friend was in shock. He actually dragged me to it a second time just to see if he imagined it being so poor.
I think it was that annoying Jar Jar thing that really did him in. There's no Jar Jar-whatever in KOTOR right? (Or if there is, can you at least kill it?)
KotOR takes place 4000 years before the movies. It is a completely different but familiar world. You don't need to know anything about the previous movies and there is no one quite like Jar Jar in the game, though some people do find Mission (14 year old Twi'lek) to be a little on the annoying side.
In that case, given the price tag and the fact that I'm in the mood to buy something, I might as well pick it up. (And before someone suggests purchasing something on GOG, they've already taken large sums of cash from me this week with their awesome Interplay sale =))

Last year in my US History class, our teacher whipped out a copy of Episode II, because it's one of the only DVDs he owns, and he didn't want to teach that day. A little less than halfway through, he tore the DVD out and asked himself out loud "Why the hell do I own that?"
