I was checking out the steam store because I understand there is a sale on.

I used to have a pc but now i have a mac. I bought HOMM5 and X-com on steam when i had a pc but havent tried to get back on steam since i have had a mac. I am not sure if i want to. I wasn't a huge fan of steam. it seemed to always be popping up wanting to do things or not wanting to do things or wanting me to do things, etc.

When i was a small child i played the Sierra adventure games. I didnt really get into the Lucasarts ones until highschool, and that was really monkey island, sam and max, day of the tentacle, etc.

i enjoy the old sierra adventure games still, and the lucasarts games mentioned, but that is probably more of a re-living childhood memories type thing rather than anything else.

my question is, should i re-join steam and buy this collection. my concerns are two-fold, i guess:

1. will i enjoy the games? did they age ok? I won't be re-living childhood memories. i like old school games, even ones i didn't play when i was young, but adventure games can be frustrating. tell me whether i will like these games based on the huge amount of information i have given about myself!

2. should i "re-join" steam or will i regret what seemed to me like having the steam store bubbling away in the background constantly spying on me and telling me how to run my life?

D2D will soon be no more. I wouldn't recommend buying anything from them.

Steam doesn't do anything weird on your computer. There's a hardware survey that it does to some users but you can opt out of it. See http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey

I don't know, but it's very possible that the games are the original Lucas Arts releases using ScummVM as a front end. I know for sure that that sadly isn't the case for the Steam releases (but I think the ScummVM people may be working on that). Wait, what? What do you mean?

I certainly wouldn't buy it if you're that worried about Steam. I mean, it is invasive, but in a good way - like a microchip installed in your brain that lets you access wikipedia 24/7.

On a side note, would one of these happen to be a game where some people crash a shuttle on an alien planet and wander around trying to figure out if they have personality issues while they uncover glowing green things? I played some sort of demo for something back on my Performa 2 and have nooooo idea what it was. It came in a LucasArts pack, if that helps any.

It was The Dig, a game similar to the film Contact in that humans get message and follow signal back to alien planet and stuff happens.

Six bucks for four games. If you're even vaguely interested in the subject matter, how wrong can you really go, unless the games contain viruses or something?

Might be lower in a daily deal. Standard Steam holiday sale practice is to not buy anything that isn't a daily deal until the final day.

That said, super cheap already.

I once had that same problem...sorta. Damn Florescent Bulbs always telling me to vote for Nader. After I tossed em for LED bulbs the issue resolved itself.

Oh, but it will! The pre-launch commands aren't much help but I check my integrity all the time.
