Gametap is selling the Fallout Trilogy (Fallout 1, 2, Tactics) for 15 dollars DRM free. Looks like its the only thing in their store that's DRM free though...
I think I'd still just buy it from GoG for 3 bucks more for all 3. It sounds odd but I'm enjoying the community of GoG more and I think Gametap has lost its ways now.
Competition is good. It will hopefully lead to a better market for all of us.
Gametap requires a client, GOG.com doesn't.
From what I gather, with Gametap you can't modify your files (fan patches etc).
You can with GOG.com
It's possible you can't use Gametap versions of games with Steam, or Xfire. With GOG, you can.
Do you get the soundtrack, hi-res wallpapers, avatars, or the fallout bible with Gametaps version? No, you do not.
GameTap is on its way out. Turner has been wasting money on it for years now and it has yet to make any significant profit. It was good idea, it just didn't really catch on.

None of that applies in this case. They are offering the games for sale and direct download through the website, not through the client. It is basically the same thing as what GOG is offering.
They needed to make GameTap international. I would have been all over it if it hadn't blocked me out due to my country.
I can see the liscensing issues with that though.

Actually quite a bit applies, like the soundtracks, hi-res wallpaper, and avatars and compiled fallout bible. You get a lot more than just those games for six bucks with GOG.com. With game tap, you may get the games without the client, so the games are basically the same games, but they're not offering the soundtrack and etc.

Except that you are wrong.
Gametap is not owned by Turner anymore. It merged with Metaboli which is a European game delivery service of the same nature.
I subscribed to Metaboli and have only recently cancelled my account due to time. I knew that the Fallout package was coming and my comment was:
"If it's going to work then you need to make it cheaper than GOG."
Other than that you are correct. Both Metaboli and Gametap require a client... Is laden with DRM and you can spend a year asking for a fan patch to be included (ala Temple of Elemental Evil which didn't work on most computers for most people) and get absolutely nowhere.. They say it's because of licensing laws, which may have some modicum of truth in it, but when GOG can do it..... (Granted, they are older games though).
I always got the impression with Metaboli that they are VASTLY understaffed. It doesn't bode well for the future.
gametap is being exposed for the shabby idea it always was now that GoG is out.

At the moment, the transfer to Metaboli is not complete. Turner is still running the operation and will be until sometime in 2009. That transfer only further proves my point. Turner was wasting money on GameTap and now they are getting rid of it. However, since the transfer to Metaboli opens up GameTap to the European market, that could actually change.

I never liked the idea of Gametap. The second you unsubscribe all the games you have become unusable, which is a big turn of for me. I would rather pay a little more per game and actually own them (not to mention not having to fight with clients and DRM) than pay a little each month only to be unable to play the games the second I don't want to subscribe any more (not to mention that you can't actually be a gold member unless you are in the US/Canada, which means you can't even take full advantage of the service).
While Gametap still has a bigger library (right now anyway) I still think that GOG is a much better service than Gametap. Not only does gog work perfectly, the community and developers seem a lot more friendly too.

Amen.
Gametap isn't the kind of thing I'd use even if I could, but I can see the appeal. For parents in the US, $5 a month to let all your kids play games without having to buy anything could be quite a good deal. Personally I prefer (a) to own my games, and (b) never to have to put my games machine on the internet, but people are different and having options like this is a good thing.
Regarding DRM, facilitating a subscription model is exactly what it is good for. It's when products are sold with DRM that I get upset.
I will say this for gametap, they do have Planescape: Torment and bunch of other games that gog isn't selling yet. They really should have focused on getting those games out and DRM free before putting out the game that has all but become synonymous with GoG. But yea, more competition in this sphere can't be anything but good for consumers, so yea, good luck to them.
And for their original business model, I can't really say that it's bad. I considered going for it but I really just didn't have the money. But a friend of mine uses it and he is perfectly happy with it. They have good games on there.
What game has become "all but synonymous with GoG"?

The fallout series.
