So there's this girl, and from those words you're probably thinking it's one of those stories, and you'd be half-right about that, but at least this one's gaming-related. We're dating, that's all you need to know. :P [/mysterious]
Anyway, her birthday is coming up, and while she doesn't have time to celebrate it due to school (she's studying to become a dentist), I want to make her feel celebrated either way. My heinous master plan is to buy her a fancy new USB stick (wanted to go for an external hard drive, but those are way too expensive for me, and this one is shaped like a dolphin) and put some games on it that she can play, even with her rather crappy computer. She told me she missed the ability to play games because of that crappy computer, but I figure "hey, there's tons of games you can play even on a crappy computer!". Now, because I got a budget, and a USB stick to buy, I'll have to stick to free games.
I know GOG has a handful, and Desura and Steam have tons, but I dunno if any of those fit the type of games she might like and can still be played on a crappy computer. I think games made in RPG Maker work for her, as she recommended to me, so [url=http://rpgmaker.net/]this place may well hold some goodies for the bag, but I'd have to dig through to find them.
As such, I figure I might as well ask for people's opinions and thoughts on what games might be something for her. From what I know:
- She likes RPGs, especially with a good story. More into JRPG territory than Western, probably.
- She likes well-written stories. Her library of books (especially fantasy and manga) is bigger than mine!
- She doesn't like bloody violence, but likes scary/creepy things.
- I don't know if she prefers simple or complex gameplay, but she either likes or doesn't mind tactical gameplay, as she likes the Fire Emblem series.
- She doesn't have a lot of time to play daily and overall, so games that are no more than a few hours long or are easy to get into quickly and play casually are probably better. (All the better if they still include great stories.)
As long as they can be put unto a USB stick from my computer so they can be played on another computer, because that's the whole idea behind it.
I'd put some of my GOG games on there for her, but I'm not sure if that's in the spirit of GOG.
I'd put a handful fantasy genre short stories in PDF file in as well, if I only could find some free ones.
