Ultra-violent anime, huh. I never understood why some people like gore for the sake of gore, but I'm not here to judge. I'll just give some extra imput on some of the mentioned ones as a story-driven person who doesn't care much about gore. I also don't know what "M.D Geist" is (and from the comments, I'd probably prefer to keep it that way), so take my words with perspective.
Berserk is awesome, once you get past the "huge guy/killing machine with an even bigger sword cutting people in 2" idea. I really like the characterization and story there.
Elfen lied also has a decent story, even if incomplete on the anime, and if you like blood you'll get plenty of it.
I can't recommend Blood+, the first episode was awesome but it just goes downhill from there (and there are 52 total). Plus, despite the title, I don't remember a particularly big amount of red colored liquid around.
Higurashi can get more brutal, specially because it contrasts heavily with the light hearted comedy the rest of the show is based on. The mix really works.
Hellsing has plenty of blood and the characters are very interesting. Nothing like an immortal vampire to spice things up. Just make sure you watch the OVAs and not the older TV series.
Gantz is a series where human life means nothing, and you are never sure what is going on besides the fact that someone is going to die soon. I didn't quite like the anime version though.
Finally, Mnemosyne no musume-tachi. It's been a long time on this one, but I kinda remember some disturbing scenes there. Then again, when the setting pits immortal lesbians against insane "angels" set on devouring them, that's bound to happen.
It's been a long time since I used to watch anime, so I can't give the best recommendations. If you are considering manga, though, just let me know. I've read hundreds of those and still do, and I've come up with some pretty fucked up stuff.
Qwertyman: I was under the impression that most anime was pretty bloody and violent. I've seen very little anime, but the few that I have seen, I've liked a lot. One was Berserk, and the other was Samurai X Trust and Betrayal, I believe (both subtitled not English dub versions). Are those considered violent?
You should read Yotsuba! to break your stereotypes.
