Hi everyone, I hope I'm not going against a certain rule for posting something like this in that forum, but it should be okay from what I've read.

So I am looking for two fairly old games ('98 to '00 I think) from my teen years, and I can't remember their title nor who made these. I'll tell you what I know about them :

The first one was on a demo CD which included the first Sudden Strike and that game. I remember it was a racing game, but there was no AI playing against you and the levels you were racing in were always looking alien-like (monochromous, tracks that included loopings). The cars (as far as I can remember there was only one car playable, an odd red car with monster truck wheels and a small body) and the tracks too in fact, especially the tracks. They were kind of tricky and you had to control your speed in order to not fall into the void. That's all I can remember for this one.

The second one was a futuristic tank sim game. One of my relatives gave it to me but it was all in german so I couldn't tell what I was doing in the menus and what my objectives were, but mostly it was always down to "go from point A to point B and kill the bad guys in point B before extraction, soldier". Anyway, the tanks were all hover tanks and spread into different categories (light, meds and heavies, but I remember clearly that the categories weren't specified, you had to tell from their configuration). I remember it also included a mission editor, with some of the environment taking place on different parts of the solar system, and I recall spawning a whole bunch of tanks on the moon and watching them fighting. I also remember one music in particular, which was electronic, but I can't find a song that matches.

If anyone can tell me what these two games are called or where to find them, please tell me. Also, sorry if this is the wrong forum or if that kind of thread is forbidden.

Good day.

Afraid I don't recognise either of the games - but don't worry, you're in the right place, and these threads happen a lot!

I played the first one, but I can't remember it's name. In the full version, you had other cars as well, and you could pick up weapons and use them against other cars. They're working on a fan-made reboot, but I can't remember the name :(

Don't worry. I doubt you could have found a better place on the internet to post this. This forum is excellent at figuring out these things ;-)

I don't know about the second game, but the first one sounds like it could be or [url=http://www.mobygames.com/game/rollcage-stage-ii]Rollcage Stage II.

Is this the second one?

EDIT: Yeah, Rollcage was the game I was thinking about.

Sure looks like rollcage stage 2, but I remember it pretty clearly to be rather slow and precise. Also, it had a pretty sharp physics system for the time. I remember a portion of a track where you would drive on top of a tube and hope not to fall into the emptyness, at times it looked more like a puzzle/reflexion game with cars than a racing one. But that might just be me making up memories over time, so I can't tell exactly. Plus, the demo could have been released in a cd with the demo of sudden strike since they both got out in the same year. Anyway, thank you very much, I'll look into it.

Close, but not quite. The tanks were well modeled and actually looked like tanks coming from a sci-fi movie; it also had terrain like green valleys and dangerous mountains and hills. Of this I'm certain it's not my memory failing !

Green valleys, mountains and hills.... It's not Incoming Forces, is it? That has ship combat as well:

These are the Tank games I know:

Assault Rigs

Wild Metal Country

The second one is free from Rockstar Games nowadays.

Nah, it's not it. It didn't star alien races or anything else, it was purely restricted to the human race and it was tank-versus-tank only. No infantry, no surface-to-air combat and vice versa, no sea units, no spaceships; just good old tank-on-tank action.

I guess I can give up on that one, it's probably an obscure production of a german studio that closed long time ago. Thank you very much for your help.

Still not it, it had a very serious atmosphere. Plus, the tank models were realistic (apart from the whole hovering thing), had camouflage depending on the terrain, didn't use flashy colours. Thank you very much as well.

The tank game sounds a lot like Battlezone.

Sounds very much like Rollcage Stage II, the tutorial "races" are like that, and I believe the demo was just the tutorial.

I wanted to confirm my memory, but unfortunately I cannot get the demo to start up on my box (running Windows 7 x64 with ATI graphics), but if you want to try, you can find it over at Fileplanet.

This is where you can get it for free, if it is the game:
Link

EDIT: I believe it's legal. If it isn't, someone please tell me. I'll remove the link in this case.

I got it running on my Ubuntu 12.04, and yes, this game seems very, very familiar. Flashes of images and sounds mostly, but I don't remember the track on that demo version at all. Maybe it was a different one. Thank you anyway (gosh I thanked so many times in this thread I lost count), I think it might just be the game I was talking about.

Well, not bad for my first steps on GOG's forums. I'll try to donate a game here once in a while.

Again, thank you all for your time and kindness. Good evening !
