sorry for our english and thanks for your help
I've heard that Gothic 2 got some kind of a multiplayer going recently.
Two worlds, it's in GoG's catallogue. Also I have heard that Gothic 2 has some sort of MP modification, can't confirm it thou.

It's not the most awesome game ever, but Neverwinter Nights is multiplayer, and it's also on sale :)
Isn't Baldur's Gate multi-player? I seem to remember making a mess of it a long time ago, over modem connection.

I'd say, that Icewind dale(1 or 2) is better for multiplayer than BGs.
I guess so. No idea myself. Just remember the engine having a MP option and struggling through it back in the day. Probably works better today with high-speed 'net and the lower pings that we get these days.

Seconded! These were designed with multiplayer in mind.

I could also recommend Neverwinter Nights, has awesome multiplayer potential, you can even be Dungeon Master!
thanks for the new answers.
we tried gothic 2 mp - this sux - no mobs, no quests etc... a f-ing pvp game..
icewind dale and baldurs gate is too "diabolic"

i'll try nwn, but it seems too difficult to me. oh
I am also looking for a multiplayer game to play. I'm only interested in Icewind Dale 1 or 2 or NWN. My only requirement is that whichever game it is, it must be playable by 2 players over the internet. Meaning I can run a server on my computer and my friend who lives in another state can join that server to play with me, but nobody else can. Do all 3 games I listed above fit that requirement?

If so, what are the general pro's and con's of each?

NWN: You get a mad ammount of custom content you can play together, it'll be usually playable only by your 2 characters and ... well that's probably it.

IWD: You will both need to control at least 2 characters to succeed (not strictly needed, but playing IWD with only 2 characters is hell), the network game is slightly less polished and you'll get a better vanilla campaign, at least IMO.

As far as I think, NWN is far better deal for custom content alone.
You really aren't going to find many good rpgs that have multiplayer at all... let alone implemented well.
Ok great, thanks. We'll try NWN.
