LOMSE was a neat little game at the time, but ultimately it's a HOMM wannabe. I think HOMM does this style of game much better, and is much more polished.
There are two mods out there that try to make the game better; you can only use one of them. My main problem with the game is that the AI is staggeringly stupid. If another faction ever threatens you, it's more by accident than anything else. There's also only one map, so while you can play as different classes/factions, replay is limited.
There was potential here, and I wished it was more, but ultimately it just didn't get enough support.
