Going full 'on message' it occured to me that no-one mentioned GOG's very own Witcher series yet

and to balance that up I'll also point out that Fable: The Lost Chapters is availiable on.... other DD sites, whatever else people say about Fable I LOVE the combat system and the fluid way you switch between melee, bow and spells
There's plenty of talking face doors for you to work out how to unlock too!

Ghorpm: It's a game from 1999 so secrets were not fashionable yet and therefore you won't get any massages that you've achieved something special
Who needs a popup saying "your found a secret" when you're wielding a new flaming sword?

That be true! But you have no idea how spoiled people are nowadays. When I found the Sting (yes, you can get it in Drakan!) my friend (he is definitely not a youngster) asked: "Did you get any achievement for that?"

Only answer to that question is "no, but I felt I had achieved something. Which is more than what I can say of most achievements on my steam account". But hey, to each their own.

More on topic, I second the recommendation of Drakan: Order of the flame. I think it's exactly what the OP is looking for. We need more games like that, and this particular one on GOG.

Taunttheostrich: Hey guys I was curious of the community could give me a hand. I'm near completing Blade of Darkness, on the Lord of Darkness right now, and I absolutely loved this game, looking forward to playing through it with the other characters at some point. However, one issue that I did have was that it just didn't have enough secret areas/items.

[edit : in an attempt to word myself a bit more clearly (I'm poor at this) I'll list off a few qualities I'm looking for]

- Third person controlled
- preferably fantasy/medieval setting
- environments that require you to be cautious (traps, pit falls and the like)
- secret areas to discover (not necessarily open world, but a lot of extras to uncover, think Duke 3D secrets)

Hopefully I made it a bit more clear, apologies for being so poor at this.

The 'beat someone to death with their own arm' part is certainly very Blade of Darkness like (although, in Severance, that was a lie - enemies only gave up their arm when they died so you could only beat someone to death with their FRIEND'S arm in that one)

Rugal1945: Gothic saga is so good, that the hundreds of bugs and bad designs it has never mind at all. I had a 200h Oblivion gameplay experience, but the OBSSESION I felt in me during Gothic I & II (never made to play G3 due to my lack of PC strenght) I never felt it in no other game since Doom.

This is the only game I've played, where you can enter in an Orc camp, plenty of green bad ass motha fuckas to say "hi" and run out to the human camp with 3 or 5 Orcs following you....guess what happens when you arrive to the human camp with the orcs smelling your ass....well, I still remember the orgasm of cleaning all this dead bodies pockets and finding powerful weapons and items, being very weak character at the very beginning of the game.

I play real role playing with my friends, and dude, I can assure you this is the most similar to that I've seen...
Wow coming from someone who is that deep in to roleplay, that really adds a lot of rep to the Gothic series for me, and they seem to be pretty lengthy games so I should be covered for quite some time! I watched some videos on the combat too and it doesn't actually look that bad.

I've played an beat Fable so many times and I'm still not tired of it. always been pissed that Fable 2 never came to the PC.

As for The Witcher games I do actually own both of those! I haven't gotten to touch The Witcher 2 yet sadly, shared issue between data cap, and hard drive space. it is on my summer list though especially with the FCR mod out.

I too will vote for it :) it does sound exactly like what I'm after, though I'll hold off on playing the PS2 game until I get the first one out of the way, it does seem to be on Amazon pretty cheap but I'm curious as to what extra goodies GOG would be able to throw in.

Fever_Discordia: GOG has Die by the Sword and Deathtrap Dungeon but I've not played either - seem to be run around waving swords at people things though, plus there's that D&D one - Demon Stone, you'll have to wait for someone with 1st hand experience of that one too, I'm afraid...

Taunttheostrich: I've heard some pretty terrible things about Deathtrap Dungeon honestly. :P I thought that was the perfect game for me when they first put it on GOG till I watched some video reviews and gameplay of it. I mean maybe at the sale price it'd be worth a bit of tinkering but it does seem pretty rough, nowhere near as bad as the PS1 version I've heard.
Die by the Sword looks interesting . I'm worried if the graphics would cause eye strain judging by the screen caps though.
I quite liked Deathtrap Dungeon. It had some rough edges, and the camera was not always willing to cooperate, but the combat was fun and challenging and the environments were interesting. There was also a good amount of different enemies to fight.

I've not played Die by the Sword in ages, but I never had any issues with the graphics. Everything was clearly identifiable. The game was (as I remember it at least) super challenging though.

Anyway, the games that GOG have that I think you'll enjoy are the two above mentioned games (Die by the Sword & Deathtrap Dungeon) and also Enclave

Slightly weaker recommendations (as they don't quite fit in with your criteria, but still are good games that have a good amount in common with what you are looking for) goes out to the Legacy of Kain games, Gothic & Arx Fatalis.

Yeah, that Driver 2 and Saints Row 1 are all sadly missing from PC
Never understood why we didn't get versions of the Red Dead games either, still I conform myslef in the thought that my backlog is already ridiclous without them...

the camera did seem like what a lot of people were having issues with. honestly though if it has fun combat I can get over that. I'm sure I've played games with worse camera controls.

Die by the Sword does look really interesting though, the combat looks different than anything I've ever played before. but after watching some game play on youtube the visuals dont look as muddied as they do in the screencaps. unfortunate that there wasn't any texture mods.

Gothic and Arx have been getting a lot of recommendation though so I cannot ignore those two they seem to fit in with what I'm after just fine, as far as the Legacy of Kain series, I played Soul Reaver back when I was a kid on the PS1 and fell in love with it, and a bit of Blood Omen 2, I've yet to play the entire series but I do own them on GOG so I will be getting around to that. I can only hope that GOG can get Blood Omen 1 someday.

it does bum me out that the original Saints Row wasnt on PC, bums me out even more that Saints Row 2's port wasn't exactly the best, still managed to get through the game though, and Driver 2 was just a riot my friends and I spent many hours playing that.

I too am upset by the lack of Red Dead on the PC, I dont know what Rockstar was thinking with that one, I think it would've sold great on the PC. Honestly though I still think my favorite Rockstar universe is Bully, though some of it could just be sentimental reasons, it was still a hell of a story. I always wanted a sequel.
