Alas there aren't so many JRPGs on GOG. Septra core is the only one that comes to my mind, otherwise well... You'll have better chances with nintendo and sony.

Although one should note that the publishers who are both on GOG and do have JRPGs and for some reason haven't decided to publish them here are to blame. And yeah, when I say "publishers" I mean Square Enix.

Much better for them to sell half-assed remakes on IOS or consoles for prices that defy any buyer's common sense. EDIT : at least in europe.

As a fan of JRPGs i wouldn't call any games on GOG suited.
Its a sad fact that western tries sucks and the real games were/are not available for PC outside from Japan.
The closest that comes to mind are the old Sega conversions and some games made with
the RPG Maker (like the games from Aldorlea) but they are not here.

I couldn't recommend it to the OP, since unfortunately it's German only, but if you're a fan of JRPGs, have you played the freeware game Die Reise ins All? I didn't really like most JRPGs I've tried apart from Chrono Trigger, but this one is the most original, funny and engaging RPG Maker game I've ever played (much better than what I've seen of Aldorlea, as far as I'm concerned, but YMMV).

hi,
there are so many RPG maker games around that its hard to play them all or even know them all.
Is there a working link for Die Reise ins All? Cause it sounds good only that the author has removed the file from
his page :(
Sadly no, there aren't, and I somehow doubt that even in dying thrashes that many Japanese companies wouldn't think to consider asking a western company to take over the support, sale, distribution, and maintenance of their older titles.

Too many of the companies of Japan that I'd like to see here are trapped in monolithic, old, and often lethal ways, or are so separated from reality that they may as well be starfish aliens.

I think much of the older people of Japan have to realize that they are not just their isolated island, and that in this day and age, using oceans as an excuse is just going to cause ire.

I really and truly think they are baffled by the concept that there is massive potential money to be made in selling their games as is, without having to retool or add anything new to them. I think Nintendo 'loosely' understands the concept, they just keep striking out in the value department and 'delivering things in a timely matter' department.

For example, Urban Champion wasn't even worth a fiver when it was released, and it certainly isn't now. And Super Mario Bros 3 shouldn't take nearly three years to roll out onto a system. Its a known system, there's no licensing to be had, just drop it. Releasing a game nobody wants is just as bad as skipping the week.

(If you couldn't tell, I'm bitter towards the Japanese and their stance on old games.)

Sorry, I didn't check the link below the youtube video. Apparantly the address of the author's website has changed since then. Either go and navigate to "Die Reise ins All / Allgemein" or click on this [url=http://share.cherrytree.at/showfile-9279/die_reise_ins_all__v14_.zip]direct link where the file is hosted on CherryShare. This really isn't just *any* RPG Maker game, I highly recommend giving it a try.

Weird, I just tried to download the zip file from CherryShare and it worked. If you PM me your e-mail address, I could try to send it to you, although I'm not sure whether Yahoo would allow for attachments of that size (24.1 MB).

natronosaurus: Any suggestions?
Ys games are supposed to come to GOG soon, IIRC. Action RPG, I guess.

How are they in any way JRPGs?

They're not Japanese in style or origin.

That's really cool. I did ask Xseed about it quite a while ago and they sounded open to the idea but had obviously not actually made any moves towards a DRM-free version at that point.

Really? I'd be interested in those. I've played a game or two from the series and they can be a bit grind-heavy, but fun none the less. And Japanese style RPGs/Action-Adventures are a rare sight on GOG ( or on PC in general ).
