Whispering World is an absolutely gorgeous game which even manages to pull some heart strings with it's story. It does have some tricky puzzles but nothing too unfair.
Day of the Tentacle is awesome but some crazy logic.

If you want a good story line I would suggest the Tex Murphy series, while they are a bit dated with the full-motion-video and old school 3D but the story and style will draw you in.
nice, so many to choose from hehe.

Man!, just saw a few vis of the whiepered world. Seems GREAT!!!! I think il buy it with my store credit thats left. I keep hearing great response on the story. :) .

yahtzee Croshaw's "Chzo Mythos" is always good. So is the "1213" trilogy, though that counts as more of an "Action/Stealth/Puzzle Platformer". The best part is that he's released the "Special Editions" for free now.
I always recommend playing Sanitarium at least one time in your life. I guarantee that it will not disappoint.

ninja grammatical edit...

weird, for the whiepered world,, every player seems to like it but on official review (gamespot, pc gamer). It got pretty low scores. But I think il go ahead and still buy it :-)

Because gaming journalists sometimes tend to review genres they don't play all that often and it colors their opinions on a given game.

Watch a gameplay video on youtube to see if it's something you might like. I wasn't very fond of the German voice overs when I did that and the conversations seemed a bit tedious but then again, I sometimes get bored by the conversations in The Longest Journey, too, and maybe the English version of TWW is better. ;)

Well I decided to buy the whispered world after watching a few vids on youtube. Seems to have a great story :)
The Whispered World is actually great, if you can look past the (primarly) main character's voice, which is an acquired taste (think Adam Sandler's baby voice, but less irritating and more... "cute").

predcon: Normality. Or The Neverhood.
Well, if we're talking any adventure game add in Grim Fandango.

But The Neverhood actually has a grand narrative. It's carved in the walls of a hallway for sixteen screens, but it's still grand.
